Improving criminal justice co operation among member states Who can apply? Government and judicial agencies, and relevant partner organisations What is available? €100,000 - €1,000,000 This funding programme is established to promote co operation in the field of criminal justice among European member states. The general objectives of the programme are to; promote judicial cooperation for creating a European area of justice in criminal matters; promote the compatibility in rules to improve judicial cooperation; improve the exchange of information and best practice between legal, judicial and administrative authorities and the legal professions; improve mutual trust with the view to protect the rights of victims and of the accused. Projects must be submitted by bodies and organisations established in the Member States with legal personality. Youth mobility within the EU Who can apply? Youth organisations Youth in Action is the EU Programme for young people aged 15-28. It aims to inspire a sense of active citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans and to involve them in shaping the future of the EU. The Programme promotes mobility within and beyond the EU borders, non-formal learning and intercultural dialogue, and encourages the inclusion of all young people, regardless of their educational, social and cultural background. The Programme is structured around 5 Actions: 1 Youth for Europe 2 European Voluntary Service 3 Youth in the World 4 Youth Support Systems 5 Support for European Co-operation in the Youth field Apply directly or via National Agency (in the UK this is the British Council) http://www.britishcouncil.org/youthinaction ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE NEVILLE SHULMAN CHALLENGE AWARD 2010 The Royal Geographical Society''s Neville Shulman Challenge Award of £10,000 is now open to applications from UK individuals or groups over the age of 25. The aims of the Neville Shulman Challenge Award are to further the understanding and exploration of the planet: its cultures, peoples and environments, while promoting personal development through the intellectual or physical challenges involved in the completion of research and/or an expedition. Eligible projects must start after May 2011 and can be desk or field based and carried out in the UK or overseas. The deadline for applications is the 24th September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbwnj ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ TREE PLANTING PACKS AVAILABLE FROM WOODLAND TRUST The Woodland Trust has announced they have replaced their grant scheme with a new community tree planting pack, and also have tree packs available to schools, youth groups. The community tree planting packs are designed to help community groups to plant more trees, hedges and copses in their local shared spaces - by a church, community centre or playground for example, or on patches of land that are currently unused. The packs are available in two different sizes, these are; 105 trees, ideal for planting as a hedge or copse; 420 trees, ideal for planting on roughly an acre of land. Each of these packs are available in four different themes; Year-round colour; Wood fuel; Jams, jellies, chutneys and cordials; wildlife. Packs of edible trees are available to schools and youth groups, sponsored by Sainsbury''s Active Kids. Schools and youth group must register on the Sainsbury''s Active Kids website. http://digbig.com/5bbwnm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GRANTS TO POLITICAL FOUNDATIONS AT THE EUROPEAN LEVEL The European Parliament has announced a new call for proposals to provide operating grants to support political Foundations that operate at the European level. Political Foundations are organisations that are affiliated to political parties at European level and play an important role in contributing to the debate on European public policy issues and on European integration, including by acting as catalysts for new ideas, analysis and policy options. The budget for this call is estimated at a total of €11.4m subject to approval by the budgetary authority. The maximum amount paid to the beneficiary by the European Parliament may not exceed 85 % of the eligible operating costs of political foundations at European level. The closing date for applications is the 1st November 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbwnn ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ MAKE IT HAPPY COMPETITION e-skills UK, the Sector Skills Council for Business and Information Technology has announced the Make IT Happy Competition is now open to applications from primary schools in the UK. This year the theme of the competition is "Get your community online" and it aims to reward the most innovative, community focused IT project created by 9 to 11 year olds. New projects can be entered, or one the school is already involved in or has been involved in recently. Projects can be presented by using a; podcast; video; animation; radio show; website; radio ad. The winning school from each of the English Regions and Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland will receive a cash prize of £1,200. They will also be a prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed school selected from the regional winners and they will receive a cash prize of £4,000 for first place; £2,500 for second place; and £1,500 for 3rd place. Previous winners of the Make IT Happy Competition includes; Armthorpe Schools Pyramid, Yorkshire and Humber; Bowbridge Primary School, East Midlands; St Mary of the Angels RC Primary School, London. The deadline for entries is the 30th July 2010. http://makeithappy.cc4g.net/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO SUPPORT POLITICAL PARTIES In order to foster a greater sense of European Awareness, the European Parliament has issued a call for proposals to support political parties that operate at the European level. In order to be eligible for funding, political parties must be represented, in at least one quarter of Member States, must have gained at least three per cent of the votes cast in each of those Member States at the most recent European Parliament elections. In addition the political party must observe, in particular in its programme and in its activities, the principles on which the European Union is founded, namely the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law; and it must have participated in elections to the European Parliament, or have expressed the intention to do so. The budget for this call for proposals is €17,400,000 and the maximum level of support available is 85% of the eligible operating costs. The closing date for applications is the 1st November 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbwnp ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CRASH - SUPPORT FOR THE HOMELESS CRASH supports organisations that help homeless people. They do this by helping with all aspects related to refurbishment of buildings and occasionally new build schemes. There are 3 ways that CRASH can offer their support: Through the expertise of professionals such as architects, quantity surveyors, project managers and specialist engineers; Through cash grants; By sourcing building materials free of charge through their list of Patron or supporting suppliers. What CRASH cannot do is take over and run your building project. To be eligible for support from CRASH, your organisation must meet the following criteria: Your organisation must be a registered UK charity with the Charity Commission in England or Scotland. Your charity must have a legal hold on the building in question, either freehold or a lease for at least 3 years. The building must be used to deliver services to homeless people or a high percentage of people who are homeless or be related to the charity’s administrative functions. There is no given deadline. http://www.crash.org.uk/apply-for-help/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ AUSTIN AND HOPE PILKINGTON TRUST GRANTS MAKING PROGRAMME The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust which awards grants to charitable organisations in the United Kingdom and overseas has announced that the closing date for the final funding round under its Children; Youth; The Elderly; Medical funding programme is the 1st November 2010. Grants are usually between £1,000 and £10,000, with the majority being £5,000 or less. Exceptionally, grants of up to £20,000 are made, but these are usually for medical research projects. Previous grants awarded include a grant of £5,000 towards a resource centre providing advice and training for workers dealing with mental health in rural areas and £5,000 towards a project aimed at behavioural programme for persistent young offenders. The priority funding areas for the Trust in the next two years will be Music and the Arts; and projects overseas in 2011 and Homeless; Addiction; Asylum and Refugees; Sexual and Domestic Abuse; Prisoners and ex-Offenders in 2012 http://www.austin-hope-pilkington.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ INNOVATION IN ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION GRANTS Grants of up to £1,500 are available from the British Ecological Society to help teachers to develop creative approaches in communicating ecology. The aim is to promote good practice and to support ecology teaching that is both exciting and intellectually stimulating. Money is available to encourage teachers to develop innovative ways of teaching ecology and/or to undertake research to evaluate methods of teaching ecology. This can be achieved in many different ways and can include projects based in or outside of the classroom. The next closing date for applications is the 15th September 2010. In addition the Society helps biology teachers to develop their expertise in fieldwork through sponsoring training courses in collaboration with the National network of Science Learning Centres and through. http://digbig.com/5bbwqc ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES, COMMON EXPERIENCE The Burdett Trust for Nursing and the Roald Dahl Foundation have become partners to launch a brand new funding scheme to support specialist children''s nursing in the UK. The new programme - entitled ''Different Disciplines, Common Experience'' - will provide grants of up to £7,500 to enable specialist nurses in the fields of paediatric neurology and haematology to carry out initiatives to improve the quality of care available to children living with serious medical conditions. A total grant fund of £150,000 is available over 3 years and the programme will enable up to 30 specialist nurses to deliver nurse-led projects. The projects will improve the quality of patient care, enhance the status of specialist nurses and increase their leadership skills and confidence. The findings of each project will be disseminated widely to improve the profile and quality of specialist paediatric nursing in general. The deadline for completed Expression of Interest forms to be received for the 2010 round of grants is 9am on Monday 2 August 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbwqd ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BIG INVESTING IN COMMUNITIES REOPENS BIG will use our investment to make a positive difference to the lives of people and communities most in need, and that''s why our new programmes have a primary focus on tackling need and addressing inequalities. Investing in Communities has three investment areas, based around our previous investment areas of Growing Community Assets, Life Transitions and Supporting 21st Century Life, but with a more sharply defined focus. http://digbig.com/5bbwqf ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GRAND WEEK 2010 The GRAND Local Grants Scheme is co-ordinated by the Communities Sub- group which reports to Glasgow Alcohol and Drugs Partnership. The Local Grants Scheme is for Glasgow-based alcohol and drug forums and community/voluntary groups to deliver local events and activities to support the aims of GRAND week, which are: To raise awareness and increase knowledge of alcohol and drugs issues and services. To get communities involved in tackling alcohol and drugs. To build partnerships and networks between communities, services and organisations. WHO CAN APPLY? The Local Grants Scheme is open primarily to drug & alcohol forums within the Glasgow City Council area. Bids made by other organisations or groups must have the support of drug & alcohol forums (or GRAND local planning groups) operating within their CHCP area. APPLYING FOR GRAND LOCAL GRANT SCHEME FUNDING The Communities Sub-group has made available a maximum of £6,000 in each of Glasgow’s five CHCP areas to support local activities taking place during GRAND week. A further £6,000 is available for activities of a ‘city-wide’ nature. There is an upper limit of £1,000 for individual awards. Applicants are encouraged to seek other sources of ‘match’ funding and ‘in kind’ contributions from partners. Bids may include an element of development work (e.g. workshops) which takes place prior to GRAND week. To ensure effective communication and encourage partnership working within each CHCP area it is requested that drug and alcohol forums and/or GRAND local planning groups are made aware of prospective applications to the Local Grant Scheme. Prior to submission you must consult with your local GRAND representative regarding your application. Contact details for local representatives are provided at Appendix 1 of the application form.
