Two thirds of the money disbursed goes overseas and the other third to projects in the UK (mainly in the Glasgow area and favours families, teenagers, and women''s aid groups). The Trust works in the areas of education, health, alleviation of poverty and community development. Grants are more likely to be given for projects that involve: * children or young people * disabled or disadvantaged people * communities . . . and which fall within historic, artistic, architectural, aesthetic, literary, musical or theatrical criteria, and which enhance the lives of others rather than the well-being of the applicants themselves. All art forms are covered by the programme - dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts, music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media - and the Trust invites applications for projects which engage adult audiences and/or young people. Applicants are usually affiliated to organisations, but can apply as individuals. Organisations might include: museums and other cultural attractions; arts agencies; production companies; arts venues; broadcast media; schools; local education authorities; universities and colleges; youth clubs; community groups; research institutes; the NHS; and science centres. There are four deadlines in 2010 for Small to Medium Sized Projects (up to £30,000) and one preliminary deadline for Large Projects (over £30,000). See above for details. Supporting childrens health projects Who can apply? UK based childrens charities What is available? Up to £5,000 ECHO is the registered charity of Luminar Leisure Ltd. and the 3D Entertainment Group. ECHO supports the work of charities which work with children - in particular health related projects and medical equipment. All applications must have received a nomination by a Luminar or 3D Entertainment Group venue. http://www.echotrust.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ AGE UNLIMITED (SCOTLAND) NESTA the national innovation agency, has announced the launch of its new Age Unlimited Scotland programme. The programme is seeking ideas from people over 50 for a community or social enterprise that could help people in their later years (70s, 80s and above) in Scotland to be less socially isolated and as a result lead to healthier and happier lives. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to up to 20 social enterprises / community ventures to test ideas that have the potential to reduce social isolation in the older population by creating new types of services. NESTA are looking to support projects that could; be scaled and replicated; save the public purse by offering services that are more cost-effective, or for which clients would be willing to pay a small amount; and are genuinely innovative and do not duplicate what is already in the community. NESTA will be hosting four workshops. The choice of available dates will be published shortly. The workshops will be an opportunity to meet like-minded people, to refine your idea and work out the next steps to make it live. The E.ON Sustainable Energy Fund offers grants of up to £20,000 to community groups and not for profit organisations who wish to consider and implement sustainable energy projects in their buildings. Projects that can be considered include; the purchase and installation of one or more renewable energy technologies (e.g. wind, solar thermal, PV, wood etc); the renovation of existing facilities to incorporate micro-generation technology (e.g. the reinstatement of a watermill and the purchase of a turbine to produce hydro-electricity); an energy efficiency makeover for your building that could demonstrate significant energy savings and also behavioural change amongst users; and the use of new or innovative technology to deliver either energy savings or micro-generation capacity. To be eligible organisations must benefit specific groups namely: Education, vulnerable people; and people in fuel poverty. http://eon-uk.com/about/2654.aspx ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EUROPEAN NETWORK OF FEMALE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMBASSADORS The European Commission has issued a call for proposals to extend the coverage of the European Network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors to the remaining eligible countries (including the UK). The aim of this call is to create a complete European Network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors with the aim of boosting the rate of female entrepreneurial activity across the EU. The Network of Ambassadors shall inspire women of all ages (including women in active life as well as students) to become entrepreneurs and to set up their own businesses. The Ambassadors will help raise confidence in setting up and creating successful businesses. They will also be role models to inspire other women to become entrepreneurs by "telling their personal success story". Each project will set up one national network. The aggregate of them will constitute a European Network. This call is open to consortia of organisations that can include; public authorities responsible for or active in the fields of economic affairs, enterprise, business support or related issues; chambers of commerce and industry, chambers of handicrafts or similar bodies; business support organisations and start- up centres; business associations and business support networks; and public and private entities offering business support services. The EU will cover up to 50% of eligible costs and the total level of funding available for each country is ?50,000. The deadline for applications is the 12th March 2010. http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/newsroom/cf/itemlongdetail.cfm?item_id=39 17&lang=en ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EU-CANADA PROGRAMME FOR CO-OPERATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION, TRAINING AND YOUTH A new call for proposals has been launched by the European Commission under the - EU-Canada Programme for Co-operation in Higher Education, Training and Youth. The general objectives of the programme and of this call are to promote mutual understanding between the peoples of the European Union and Canada including broader knowledge of their languages, cultures and institutions and to improve the quality of human resources in the European Union and Canada. A total of ? 1,974,000 is available to fund Transatlantic Exchange Partnerships (TEP) projects for students and faculty members as well as Transatlantic Degree Partnerships (TDP) projects to develop and implement dual/double or joint degree programs. This call is open to consortia of Higher Education and Training Institutions that must consist of at least four institutions in total i.e. two from the EU and two from Canada. The maximum amount of funding on the EU side will be ?428,000 for a four- year TDP project and ?138,000 for a three-year TEP project. The closing date for applications is the 24th March 2010. http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/extcoop/canada/2010/index_en.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CASHBACK FOR COMMUNITIES (SCOTLAND) CashBack for Communities (Scotland) One million £ of criminals'' cash is to be distributed 230 youth projects in Scotland through the Scottish Government''s CashBack for Communities scheme. The Scottish Government''s CashBack for Communities scheme is funded from the proceeds of crime. The gains of serious organised criminals are taken from them and reinvested in communities to make a real difference to the lives of young people throughout Scotland. YouthLink Scotland, through CashBack for Communities, has been tasked with leading the £4 million grants programme, which supports a range of activities for young people. The previous two rounds have distributed £3 million to successful projects, and this third round distributes a further £1 million with the maximum grant capped at £10,000 to maximise the number of projects which can benefit. The funding programme is currently closed to new applications, however YouthLink hopes to announce details of a 4th funding round in April 2010. http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Justice/public-safety/17141/cashback ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING FOR MUSIC PROMOTERS The PRS for Music Foundation, which is the UK''s largest independent funder for new music of any genre, provides a range of grants to stimulate and support the creation and performance of new music in the UK has announced that it is seeking applications for funding from promoters of Music of any genre, including unsigned band promoters. This funding scheme has two levels of funding. If you are applying for the first time, you are only able to apply for up to £3,000. If you wish to apply for more than £3,000, please email applications@prsformusicfoundation.com. To be eligible for funding, promoters will need to have at least one year''s track record of promoting events; be promoting at least 8 events over a 12 month period (Making Music music clubs must be promoting at least 3 concerts during this period); and be programming new British music of any genre. There are several closing dates throughout 2010 and the next closing day is the 2nd February 2010. http://www.prsformusicfoundation.com/funding/promoters.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE CIVIL SOCIETY CHALLENGE FUND The Department for International Development (DFID) has announced that the deadline for submission of concept notes under the Civil Society Challenge Fund (CSCF) as changed to the 1st of April 2010. The CSCF is an annual competitive fund which can provide up to £500,000 for 5 years for projects that support the British government''s fight against world poverty in the developing world and to help raise awareness of development issues within the UK. The fund is open is to not-for-profit UK-based civil society organisations, networks or coalitions which share DFID''s overall goal of poverty eradication. DFID welcome applications from; non-governmental organisations; Membership groups; faith based organisations; trade unions; etc. Applicants need not be organisations whose primary purpose is international development. However, applicants need to demonstrate that they have an established and effective relationship with local civil society organisation(s) in the countries where the project will be implemented. Applicants must first submit a Concept Note. The deadline for full proposals will remain unchanged and is the 31st May 2010. http://www.dfid.gov.uk/Working-with-DFID/Funding-Schemes/Funding-for- not-for-profit-organisations/CSCF/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BBC CHILDREN IN NEED SMALL GRANTS SCHEME BBC Children in Need are inviting not-for-profit organisations (including registered charities, voluntary organisations, schools, local authorities, churches, social enterprises, community interest groups, universities etc) working with disadvantaged children and young people 18 years and under, living in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, to apply for grants of up to £10,000 through their small grants scheme. BBC Children in Need can only fund projects that focus on the differences made (outcomes) to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. For this reason, when applying for a grant organisations must provide clear evidence that disadvantaged children and young people will be the primary beneficiaries of the project; and experience positive changes in their lives from the activities or services you are providing. BBC Children in Need aims to fund projects where a small amount can make a real contribution to the success of the project. Grants can be used to cover both, capital and revenue costs. There are four application deadlines in the year. Through the Culture Programme the European Commission provides financial support to enhance the cultural area shared by Europeans with a view to encouraging the emergence of European citizenship. Through these calls the for proposals, the European Commission specifically wants to support Literary translation projects to stimulate the widest circulation of European literature among European citizens by supporting the translation of high-quality European literature into the different languages of the countries participating in the Programme; and special measures - cooperation with third countries to support cultural cooperation projects aimed at cultural exchanges between the countries taking part in the Programme and Third Countries, which have concluded association or cooperation agreements with the EU. The Culture programme supports projects, organisations, promotional activities and research in all branches of culture, except the audiovisual branch for which there is a separate programme named MEDIA. The funding available is open to Cultural operators, including cultural enterprises as long as they are acting in a non-profit-making cultural capacity. Volunteers can apply for bursaries of up to £500 to cover travel, accommodation and other costs involved in the exchange. This initiative is aimed at helping 500,000 people into employment by giving them access to vital IT skills over the next 3 years. By becoming a Britain Works NGO Programme Partner charities will be able to access resources, software, training curriculum and dedicated events and webinars.
