The Patients First Programme provides support and facilitation to clinically based nurse-led teams to help them to develop, implement and evaluate locally focused innovations that improve patient care in any healthcare setting across the UK. Through the programme the Foundation is seeking to recruit 15 new projects teams. Successful teams will receive (over a 12 month period) funding of up to £3,000 as well as a range of advice and support measures to implement their project. The closing date for applications is the 10th September 2010. http://www.fons.org/ahcp_pffunding.asp ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING INCREASE FOR RURAL BROADBAND The Scottish Government has announced that Rural communities will be able to bid for a share of a million-Euro fund to bring enhanced broadband to their areas. The new investment is being delivered by the LEADER scheme which supports small-scale, community driven projects in rural areas and is aimed at improving coverage and bringing faster broadband rural communities. LEADER is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP), aimed at promoting economic and community development within rural areas. LEADER is a bottom-up method of delivering support for rural development through implementing a local rural development strategy. Support is aimed primarily at small-scale, community driven projects that are pilot and innovative in nature. http://digbig.com/5bbxej ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HLF HERITAGE GRANTS SCHEME The next application round for the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Heritage Grants Scheme for projects over £1million and under £5million is the 9th August 2010. Under the Heritage Grants scheme funding is available for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. To be eligible for funding a project must help people to learn about their own and other people’s heritage, conserve the UK’s diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy; and help more people, and a wider range of people, to take an active part in and make decisions about heritage. HLF welcome applications from single organisations and partnerships. Priority is given to not- for-profit organisations, and partnerships led by not-for-profit organisations. If private owners are involved, HLF expect the public benefit to be greater than any private gain. In addition, the HLF also makes grants of £50,001 - £1 million; and Grants in excess of £1 million. http://digbig.com/5bbxem ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GLAXOSMITHKLINE IMPACT AWARDS The GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards have been running since 1997 and are designed to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health. The awards are open to registered charities that are at least three years old, working in a community health-related field in the UK, with a total annual income between £10,000 and £1.5 million. An overall winner will receive £35,000, nine other winners receive £25,000 and up to ten organisations that are highly commended or runners up receive £5,000 or £3,000 You do not need to present a new project. The awards are designed to recognise success and achievements for existing work You decide how to use the award money Organisations that win or are highly commended for an IMPACT Award will be offered free training valued at £4,000 for each organisation. Find out more about the IMPACT Awards Development Network Winners will be given a range of resources to help promote their work (such as professional photographs, films, banners and brochures). The deadline for applications is 24 September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbxex ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE RASKOB FOUNDATION The Raskob Foundation, which is based in the US, is a Catholic Family Foundation that makes grants to projects associated with the Catholic Church internationally as well as in the US. The aim of the Foundation is to support religious, charitable, literary and educational activities that will aid the Roman Catholic Church and institutions and organisations supported by it. The foundation is currently accepting applications for self-help and local projects with links to Catholic dioceses, Catholic hospitals, or Catholic religious congregations outside the US. Grants tend to be for between $5000 and $15,000. In the case of building/construction projects, applications for large sums have a low priority when it comes to grant making. Applications for projects over $200,000 are not accepted unless at least 50% of the money has already been raised (not just promised) and building already underway. There are two application windows a year. The current one is open until 8 August 2010. The next window is open between 8 December 2010 and 8 February 2011. http://www.rfca.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CLOSING THE GAP By tackling known gaps between the routine delivery of care and best practice, Closing the Gap aims to support demonstrable improvements, build the knowledge and skills of the workforce, and create approaches to transform the quality of healthcare in the UK. Each year, Closing the Gap has a distinct focus. This year, the aim is to transform the dynamic between people who use health services and those who provide them. The Health Foundation is currently looking for teams to be part of this year’s programme. The first stage of the process is to complete our online screening tool. This consists of a set of questions that checks the ‘fit’ of your idea against the scope and parameters of the scheme. Once the screening tool has been successfully completed, you can access the application form. The deadline for submission of your electronic application is 12 noon on Tuesday 13 July 2010. Interview and assessment of shortlisted teams will take place during the week commencing 20 September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbxfa ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ 4IP AWARDS– NEW THEMES UnLtd, and the digital media innovation fund created by Channel 4, have added two new themes to its 4iP Awards. The themes are Body Image and Food. Applications for grants up to £5000 are invited from people aged over 16 living in the UK, working alone or in small informal groups. The aim of the scheme is to stimulate public service digital media across the UK. It will support websites, games and mobile services that help people across the UK to improve their lives. Awards of up to £5000 will be offered to develop ideas at their early stage. Applications are invited from anyone in the UK aged over 16, working alone or within a small informal group. Check back for info regarding Body Image theme) http://www.4ip.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE JAMES CAAN FOUNDATION The James Caan Foundation (JCF) was set up by Dragon’s Den investor James Caan in 2006, and supports UK charities as well as education initiatives in Pakistan. The objectives of the foundation are as follows; For the public benefit to promote education (including social and physical training) in such ways as the charity trustees think fit. This includes: - Awarding scholarships, maintenance allowances or grants tenable at any university, college or institution of higher or further education - Providing their education (including the study of music or other arts), to undertake travel in furtherance of that education or to prepare for entry to any occupation, trade or profession on leaving any educational establishment - Helping in the development of schools in underprivileged areas To assist in the treatment and care of those suffering from mental or physical illness of any description or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness. This can be through the provision of facilities for work and recreation, or the support of research into the causes and cures of diseases To support any other purpose which is deemed to be charitable. There is no set deadline. http://digbig.com/5bbxfq ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SPARK 2010 Spark is a development and investment programme supporting social enterprises that prevent and tackle homelessness including organisations that work with people who are at risk of being homeless. The overall objective is to select those organisations that can achieve the most social impact towards the core aim: to prevent or tackle homelessness. Applications are now open for Spark 2010. The programme is offering shares of Spark’s £1.6 million fund to charities, voluntary organisations, social enterprises, housing associations, local authorities and primary care trusts. Its aim is to give organisations and individuals the opportunity to address homelessness through social enterprise. The deadline for applications is 13 August 2010, with the finalists announced on 1 September 2010. http://www.sparkchallenge.org/2010.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ RURAL PRIORITIES UPDATE The last Rural Priorities Assessment Committee (RPAC) round for 2010 submission deadline is set for 2nd August (4pm), with a commit deadline of 6th September (4pm). The Scottish Government has recently issued revised guidance requiring any supplementary information associated with a full application be lodged with your case officer no more than 5 days after the submission of the application. This covers all additional information referred to in your application. Failure to submit on time will result in your application being "locked out" and delay the assessment process. http://digbig.com/5bbxfy ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ RENFREWSHIRE LEADER LEADER provides grants for projects that will benefit the rural areas and communities of Renfrewshire. LEADER is part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme aimed at improving environmental, economic and community prosperity within rural areas. £470,000 of LEADER funds has recently been awarded to Renfrewshire to help support small scale, innovative community driven projects. This LEADER programme will run from 2009-2012. What’s On Offer? 50% normal intervention rate 95% intervention possible in exceptional circumstances small grants (up to £3,000) can be delivered in two to three weeks Whilst certain criteria apply, LEADER can support ventures such as: surveys and feasibility studies rural transport schemes community events and facilities for all ages training and skills workshops rural tourism access, health and biodiversity projects new employment initiatives restoration schemes technology and communications systems Who Can Apply? constituted community groups social enterprises micro or small businesses voluntary organisations public bodies private individuals to benefit the wider community www.renfrewshireleader.co.uk ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ABERDEEN CITY COUNCIL - YOUTH ACTIVITIES SMALL GRANTS FUND The aim of the Youth Activities Small Grants Fund is to support children and young people by enabling them to apply for a small amount of funding to help them develop and to take part in activities that might not otherwise be available for them. The fund will offer young people opportunities to contribute to their own communities and to the life of the city. Successful applicants are likely to benefit in terms of gaining experience, confidence and skills. The criteria have deliberately been left very open so that your application will be bound only by your own imagination but the following rules apply: children and young people must be actively involved in making the application and in the project idea, funding is not available for individuals; group members must live in Aberdeen; applicants must be voluntary, community and school groups working with children and young people aged 12-25 years; the usual maximum grant available is £1,500.
