The Scheme provides financial assistance to a number of area-based regeneration and conservation initiatives. Priority will be given to those authorities who have not previously benefited from the programme and places that have demonstrable social and economic disadvantages which affect their capacity to support sustainable regeneration. The major part of the award will be used to help address the repair needs of a small number of historic buildings and to help fund a small grants scheme. Up to 25% of the award may be targeted at public realm works. The maximum grant for a single authority will be £500,000. The deadline for applications is the 30th September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbsee ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ UK - GERMAN CHALLENGE FUND Primary, secondary schools and FE colleges as well as youth groups in the UK and Germany are able to apply for funding support through the UK - German Challenge Fund. This aim of the fund to develop curricular and extra-curricular projects between UK and German schools and youth groups that encourage young people to pick a topic or subject of their choice and explore it in an international context. Grants provided through the UK-German Challenge Fund cover project costs, joint activities and reciprocal partner visits. The total amount of grant provided will be judged on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size, circumstances and numbers involved in the individual projects. The Challenge Fund provides grants of normally 50% towards the overall costs; in exceptional circumstances, the grant can cover up to a maximum of 75% of the total costs. Grants are available for both large and small projects and the amount can be to anything up to, but will not exceed £5,000. The next closing date for applications is the 31st October 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbseg ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BIG''S COMMUNITY WILDLIFE FUND The BIG Lottery Fund has announced the launch of its new Community Wildlife Fund. Through the fund not for profit groups, local councils, schools and health bodies can apply for funding of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that will bring together local people to discover, enjoy or protect wildlife in their local area by improving rural or urban environments for people to enjoy, and by getting people more active and healthier. Example projects include; protecting wildlife habitats; creating a nature trail, woodland walk or wildlife garden for people to enjoy; improving natural community spaces, such as rivers, ponds and woodland; exploring parks, rivers and the countryside to look for rare or endangered species; encouraging people to take up gardening or go on nature walks; providing opportunities for children to learn about nature through play. There are three deadlines for applications. The first deadline is the 21st July 2010, followed by the 22nd September and the 24th November 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbseh ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LUSH CHARITY POT FUNDING Grants of a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £10,000 (although the average grant awarded is £3,000) are available for small grassroots charities, community groups and non-violent direct action groups working in the areas of environment / conservation; animal protection; and human rights. The funding is being made available through the Handmade Cosmetics Company''s Lush Charity Pot. In the past, nearly all its grants have gone to small organisations with a turnover of less than £250,000 per year. The company are particularly keen to support projects that create change and aim to get to the route of the problem. They also prefer to fund project costs rather than core costs but occasionally fund salaries. Applications can be submitted at any time. http://digbig.com/5bbsej ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DAIWA FOUNDATION SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME The Daiwa Foundation which supports closer links between Britain and Japan is seeking applications under its small grants programme. Grants of £3,000-£7,000 are available to individuals, societies, associations or other bodies in the UK or Japan to promote and support interaction between the two countries. Daiwa Foundation Small Grants can cover all fields of activity, including educational and grassroots exchanges, research travel, the organisation of conferences, exhibitions, and other projects and events that fulfil this broad objective. New initiatives are especially encouraged. The next applications deadline is the 30th September 2010. http://www.dajf.org.uk/smallgrants ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BIOMASS HEATING SCHEME OPENS FOR APPLICATIONS A final call has gone out to small-medium sized businesses across Scotland encouraging them to take advantage of Scottish Government funding that will help them make the switch to biomass heating. Applications are being invited for the Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme, which will give grants to small and medium sized businesses to install renewable heating systems. To reach European climate change targets, the Government wants to increase by tenfold the amount of renewables used for heating in Scotland. The Scottish Biomass Heat Scheme is managed in partnership between Scottish Government and Forestry Commission Scotland. Projects must clearly demonstrate that they can be complete by March 2011. Therefore projects which have a completed specification, planning permission, match finance in place and can demonstrate a secure fuel supply will be a priority for fast-tracking. Applicants should submit an initial enquiry form that outlines their project details, however if a project is to be considered for fast-tracking to the full assessment stage, a full application must be submitted. Anyone interested has until 30 September to apply. http://www.usewoodfuel.co.uk/ScottishBiomassHeatScheme.stm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SENIOR VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES IN ADULT EDUCATION Organisations working in Adult Education and Lifelong Learning that are interested in setting up a senior Volunteering project with a European Partner Organisation will be able to apply for funding in early 2011 under the Grundtvig Programme''s Senior Volunteering scheme. Grundtvig, which is part of the EU''s Lifelong Learning Programme funds training opportunities for adult education organisations, staff and learners. Senior Volunteering projects funding aim to build a lasting collaboration with another European organisation around a specific theme or activity or target group, through the exchange of volunteers. Organisations can send senior adult learners (aged 50+) to spend 3-8 weeks as volunteers at your partner''s organisation in another country. You will also host the volunteers they send. The volunteers can be involved in any non-profit making activities, so long as they provide good learning opportunities. These may be formal, non-formal or (most usually) informal activities. http://digbig.com/5bbsep ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR SOCIAL EXPERIMENTATION The European Commission has launched a new funding round to support transnational projects that contribute to the development and testing of innovative approaches to social protection and social inclusion, in particular projects with a focus on the social inclusion of young people. The Funding is being made available through the EU Progress Programme. PROGRESS is the EU''s main employment and social solidarity programme, set up to provide financial support for the attainment of the European Union''s objectives in employment, social affairs and equal opportunities as set out in the Social Agenda. To be eligible for funding, transnational projects will have to include partnerships between stakeholders that are involved in the process of social experimentation (public bodies, local authorities, NGOs, service providers, etc). The total amount of funding available to support this call for proposals is €2.5 million. It is envisaged that around 10 projects will be selected. Funded activities should start between 01/01/2011 and 31/03/2011, for a maximum duration of 24 months and minimum duration of 12 months. The closing date for applications is the 31st August 2010. http://ec.europa.eu/progress ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING FOR INTERNATIONAL CO-OPERATION IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals to support co-operation in Higher Education and Training between the European Union and Australia and the European Union and the Republic of Korea. A total of €2.45 is available to higher education and training institutions and to consortia of higher education and/or training institutions to support Joint Mobility Projects (JMP) and Joint Degree Projects (JDP). Joint Mobility Projects (JMP) support EU-Partner Country consortia of higher education and training institutions, to carry out joint study and training programmes and to implement student and faculty mobility. Joint Degree Projects (JDP) support the development and implementation dual/double or joint degree programmes. The maximum grant available is €465, 000 for a four-year JDP project, €232, 500 for a three-year JMP project with three EU institutions and €310,000 for a three-year JMP project with four or more EU institutions. The closing date for applications is the 6th September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbseq ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING FOR TRANSPORT PROJECTS The European Commission has announced a call for proposals to promote its transport policy objectives. The main topics of the call for proposals are road safety and internal market for inland waterway transport. Areas that the Commission wants to support include: the development and implementation of innovative communication road safety campaigns; innovative concepts or the sharing of best practice to ensure greater awareness and better understanding and communication between various road users in order to improve road safety in Europe; projects relating to the impact that an ageing population has on road safety; and creating a network of centres for promoting inland waterway navigation, with the objective of advising transport users at local level and encouraging them to use inland navigation by providing logistical solutions, best practices and technical assistance; etc. Amounts granted will be between 10% and 50% of the total eligible costs of the operation, except for transport security, where it can be up to 80%. The deadline for applications is 15th September 2010. http://ec.europa.eu/transport/grants/2010_09_15_en.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING FOR SPORTS DOUBLES The Big Lottery Fund (BIG) has announced that its 2014 Communities programme is changing, with the maximum grant available doubling to £2,000. The application process has also been simplified making the grants easier to access. BIG''s 2014 Communities programme aims to build a legacy from the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Through the programme more people will be encouraged to take part and volunteer through sport or physical activity as well as using sport as a way to bring together people from different generations. In total £6.8 million will be invested over the lifetime of the fund, which is recognised as part of the Scottish Government''s Games Legacy plan. The development comes as BIG announces the latest grants from the 2014 Communities Programme. These include a grant of £1,000 to the 29th Glasgow (1st Newlands) Scout Group to run a series of camps for young people aged 8-18, which will offer an introduction to a variety of sporting and adventure activities. The grant will be used to pay for 10 dome tents; and a grant of £810 to Annette Street Primary School to buy play equipment to encourage young children to become more physically active during breaktimes. The grant will pay for a range of play equipment. http://www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/2014 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ TOWN TWINNING INITIATIVE Under the Town Twinning Initiative, which is part of the new Active Citizens for Europe Programme (2007 -2013) grants of between €2,000 and €20,000 are available to support Town Twinning citizens meetings. Town twinning citizens'' meetings consist in bringing together a wide range of citizens and citizens'' groups from towns already twinned to further develop strong, informal and personal relations between their citizens, to reinforce the participants'' commitment to European integration; and to contribute to the development of an active European citizenship. To be eligible the applicant needs to be the municipality or its twinning association in which the meeting will take place. The deadline for applications is the 1st September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbset ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BETTER NET AWARDS The Better Net Awards is a joint programme from UnLtd and Nominet Trust to improve and encourage the development of a safe, educational and inclusive Internet. Applicants are invited from individuals or informal groups; applicants must be aged over 16 and should not apply as part of an established organisation. Up to £5,000 of funding and support is available to develop your idea. For those who have an established project with a wide reach or demonstrable long-term potential, you could be eligible to apply for a specialist package of support and funding of up to £15,000. http://unltd.org.uk/betternetawards/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LSIS FLEXIBILITY AND INNOVATION FUND The Learning and Skills Improvement Service’ Flexibility and Innovation Fund is a new funding opportunity for the learning and skills sector. Its purpose is to promote and support innovative projects that have the potential to yield significant improvements in sector practice and performance. The fund, established in Autumn 2009, affirms the commitment of LSIS to provide direct funding into the learning and skills sector and to make effective use of sector-based expertise. In the first two rounds of funding, 88 projects have been awarded funding; an investment of over £7 million directly into the sector. LSIS is pleased to announce the opening of the third bidding round for Flexibility and Innovation Fund projects. Bids, for up to a maximum of £50,000, will be invited from consortia of provider organisations for projects which are genuinely innovative and which have the potential to significantly enhance the practice and performance of the learning and skills sector. Closing date for applications is Friday, 2nd July 2010. http://www.excellencegateway.org.uk/fif ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HELP THE HOMELESS SMALL GRANTS Help The Homeless’ main funding remit is the regular allocation of Small Grants (generally up to £3000) for capital costs to small and medium- sized charities only. Grants to larger charities will only be considered if the project is suitably innovative and it is only possible for a large organisation to develop it. All applications must relate to projects that assist individuals in their return to mainstream society, rather than simply offer shelter or other forms of sustenance. If you are aged 16 to 25, and can think of a project idea that inspires other young people, then submit your idea to Big Challenge before 6th July to be in with a chance of winning part of the £65 000 prize fund to make it happen. The Big Challenge Youth Leadership Team are looking for original project or campaign ideas that will have a big impact and inspire other young people. You can apply on your own or in a group with other young people and all applications will be shortlisted by the Youth Leadership Team before going on to a final online public vote. If you win part of the Challenge fund, you will receive cash and support to help make your ideas a reality. The Trust is particularly interested in charities that work with vulnerable, marginalised and excluded people in society, with a focus on; refugees and victims of torture, prisoners, older people, and people with mental health problems. The trust offers small grants of up to £5000, with trustees meeting four times a year to assess applications. http://www.abcharitabletrust.org.uk ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ECO-INNOVATION PROJECTS WITHIN EUROPE The European Commission has announced a call for proposals for the Eco- Innovation Projects within Europe. Organisations, including social enterprises and other not for profit organisations, that have developed an environmental product, service, management practice or process that has a proven track record yet has not been fully marketed due to remaining risks are eligible to apply. Around €35 million of funding is available overall, with grants available to cover up to 50% of eligible costs to help projects overcome risks and reach the market fully. Projects can last up to 36 months. Help is offered for; Adapting private gardens to meet the special needs; Making grants towards tools, raised beds, paving and greenhouses; Providing help with special gardens in hospitals, centres and schools; Distributing information on garden aids and techniques. http://www.gardeningfordisabledtrust.org.uk ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FOYLE FOUNDATION SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME Small charities operating in the areas of the arts and learning that have an annual turnover of less than £100,000 per annum can apply for funding of between £1,000 and £10,000 through the Foyle Foundation''s Small Grants Programme. The Foundation which is one of the largest grant making trusts in the UK provides grants that are helping to make the arts more accessible by developing new audiences, supporting tours, festivals and arts educational projects; encouraging new work and supporting young and emerging artists; and that address special educational needs and learning difficulties. Larger organisations can apply for funding through the Foyle Foundations Arts and Learning Main Grants Programmes. The Partnerships for Public Engagement (PPE) scheme provides opportunities for researchers to undertake public engagement projects related to their research interests. The objectives of the fund is to enable researchers to carry out high-quality public engagement projects related to their research interests; to provide learning and training opportunities in aspects of public engagement, and to build the capacity and capability for researchers to be active in public engagement; and to stimulate the general public''s interest in, and engagement with, research and its potential impact on society. There are two levels of award available for entrepreneurs wishing to develop and run socially entrepreneurial projects that benefit the public or community. 13 Catalyst awards worth £2,200 will be allocated for people who need the running costs to get their idea off the ground and 6 Development awards worth £15,000 will be allocated for established social entrepreneurs to get their ventures fully operational. The deadline for expressions of interest is the 9th July 2010. http://www.unltd.org.uk/guinness-bring-it-to-life-awards/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BIG INVESTS £50 MILLION TO SUPPORT DEMENTIA CARE The Big Lottery Fund’s Scotland Committee have now agreed to establish a new independent trust to deliver a £50 million investment to help improve the lives of young people leaving care and individuals with dementia and their carers across Scotland. The new fund will seek to support charities, community groups, education, health and voluntary organisations. BIG aims to have this Fund running by Autumn 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbsfm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ REACH FOR IT GRANTS Charitable organisations providing IT to the elderly and who want to expand their existing services, can apply for a Reach for IT grant. The programme enables existing local IT projects to build their capacity by using volunteers for outreach work in care homes. Grants of up to £20,000 are available for five organisations to build the capacity of their digital inclusion projects. Priority will be given to organisations that already have ICT projects in care homes; organisations that have volunteering projects; projects working in hard- to-reach or rural areas, or projects using innovative digital technology. The closing date for applications is noon on the 28th June 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbsfn ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CASH 4 CLUBS Cash 4 Clubs, funded by Betfair and supported by SportsAid, offers grants of £250 - £1,000 to supports grassroots sports clubs. No preference is given to types of sport or the age range accessing the activity. However clubs should play an active role in the community, encourage social interaction and fitness, and be registered with its sports’ National Governing body. All types of costs will be considered, including equipment, training and capital costs.
