The initiative is designed to increase the awareness of financially excluded people about the services available to help them to manage their money better, including how to set up basic bank accounts, access financial services including low cost loans, start saving, and where they can get financial and debt advice. Financial inclusion cuts across a number of themes and activities that link to both Westminster and Scottish Government policy and the DWP Scottish Financial Inclusion Champions are looking to support new and innovative financial inclusion activity and are seeking proposals from established Third Sector not for profit organisations and partners with a track record in their area to support small-scale financial inclusion initiatives. It must be stressed that this is not for creating any new national projects, but for reinforcing what already exists locally and what has not already received direct support from the Financial Inclusion Fund – so, for example, capital for onlending and the provision of debt advisors are out scope. A key criteria for any proposal supported is how easily the model can be transferred. Contracts will be awarded to organisations which demonstrate their ability to deliver against one or more of the objectives of the Fund outlined above. The deadline for applications is 29th January 2010. The investment will upgrade the UK''s digital infrastructure to bring super-fast broadband to 90% of the country, essential if the UK is to remain globally competitive as estimates suggest that private investment will only reach up to 70% of the population by 2017. The objectives of the Next Generation Fund are; to support Digital Britain''s aim to roll out next generation networks to at least 90% of the UK by 2017; to support economic growth by incentivising market investment in communications infrastructure to meet the needs of businesses and households; and to maximise links with the Government''s Universal Service Commitment - a parallel broadband investment programme to ensure every community has access to 2Mbps broadband connection by 2012. http://www.bis.gov.uk/next-generation-fund ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CALL FOR PROPOSALS - YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAMME The European Commission has announced the application closing dates for the Youth in Action Programme 2010.
