The focus will be on welcoming people from the Roma community. • To carry out door duty during Crossroads twice weekly advocacy service (this would include answering the door and making appointments). • To be able to communicate effectively in English and Slovakian/Czech (or Roma). • To be part of the Crossroads staff team supporting the delivery of community development work in the Govanhill area. • To work in partnership with other individuals and organisations present at the groups and involved in similar work. • To work within Crossroads policies and anti-discriminatory practices. The organisation is currently providing parenting classes for parents who have been affected by substance misuse (drugs and alcohol) and is seeking to hire an individual experienced in addictions issues to work with this client group. The post is a short-term one (no more than 20 hours) to work with the client group over a two-and-a-half month period beginning in mid- January. Duties would include: Assessing clients for suitability to enter the parenting classes Helping to provide one-to-one support for clients Liaising with referrers to the programme Helping to facilitate personal and social development groupwork which accompanies the parenting classes. This includes: Developing self-confidence and self-esteem Building up practical skills Promoting healthier lifestyles Raising aspirations for further training, education and employment We would be looking to work with someone who has experience of both one- to-one work and groupwork with people experiencing substance misuse issues. The individual would preferably have some experience of working with parents and on parenting issues, though this would not be regarded as essential for the post. The post is based in the Millburn Centre in the Royston area and the successful post-holder will work with parents attending three groups in the Possilpark, Royston and Provanmill. A clean driving licence would be desirable for this position as it will involve travel between different sites. Mileage will be reimbursed.
