Through the programme grants of more than £10,000 are available for projects that help older people cope with the challenges of this particularly harsh financial climate and the resultant exclusion and hardship it is causing. This programme will be aimed at supporting older people (65+) to build their knowledge and skills to manage their money more effectively, ensure access to good, independent financial advice, guard against financial scams and abuse and cope better with cold homes. Comic Relief are especially interested in how older people can be supported to manage the extreme rising fuel and food prices. In addition, the programme aims to encourage partnerships with voluntary sector organisations and banks, building societies, credit unions, energy companies and others to recognise and respond better to the needs of older people. There is a two stage application process and the deadline for stage 1 applications is the 13th February 2012. http://tinyurl.com/cf852mg/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HERITAGE GRANTS OVER £1 MILLION Under the Heritage Grants scheme funding is available for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. To be eligible for funding a project must: • Help people to learn about their own and other people’s heritage • Conserve the UK’s diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy • Help more people, and a wider range of people, to take an active part in and make decisions about heritage. HLF welcome applications from single organisations and partnerships. Priority is given to not-for-profit organisations, and partnerships led by not-for-profit organisations. If private owners are involved, HLF expect the public benefit to be greater than any private gain. In addition, the HLF also makes grants of £50,001 - £1 million; and Grants in excess of £5 million. The next closing date for applications is the 15th February 2012. http://tinyurl.com/84f4rag/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ YOUNG PERSONS VOLUNTEERING FUND The Sita Trust has announced the next funding round of its new Young Person''s Volunteering Fund. Through this new fund, the SITA Trust can provide grants of up to £10,000 for volunteering projects owned by 14-25 year olds. The SITA Trust can support projects in any of 90 funding zones around qualifying waste processing sites operated by their donor, SITA UK. This fund has been created to assist young people aged 14-25 to volunteer their time to create or enhance facilities that can be enjoyed by the wider community. To be eligible applicants must be able to demonstrate that young people will be fully involved in the design and development of the project and projects must be compliant with the rules of the Landfill Communities Fund. The next closing date for applications is 10am on the 13th February 2012. http://www.sitatrust.org.uk/volunteering/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GRANTS FOR PLANTING TREES The Tree Council, the lead tree campaigning charity working to promote the importance of trees within the changing environment, has announced that its Trees for Communities and Trees for Schools grant making programmes are now open for applications. Funds are available for schools and community groups within the UK who are able to show that children under the age of 16 will be actively engaged in tree planting projects during National Tree Week 2012 (24th November to 2nd December 2012). The Tree Council can fund projects between £100 and £700 and successful applicants will receive up to 75% towards their planting costs. For example, if your project totals £700, The Tree Council would offer up to £525. The remaining 25% will need to be secured by your school or organisation. The closing date for applications is the 31st March 2012. http://www.treecouncil.org.uk/grants/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING TO IMPROVE COMMUNITY SPACES Voluntary and community organisations, schools, community councils, social enterprises and private companies are being invited to apply for grants through BIG''s Community Spaces Scotland. Through Community Spaces Scotland, BIG wants to help bring about lasting social change. The programme aims to bring real improvements to the communities and lives of people most in need, to help them come together to become more involved in, and to take responsibility for, their local environment, communal spaces and places. Grants of between £10,000 and £250,000 are available to support a wide range of activities and services across three main themes, these are: • Meeting space • Recreation • Community green. Example projects that can be funded include: Developing local parks, community parks and gardens, play parks and allotments. Community spaces are also keen to support improvements to community centres and village halls to provide facilities for community activity and to make buildings more economically and environmentally sustainable. This programme will be delivered across two funding rounds: The deadline for fast track applications has now passed. Successful applicants for stage two will have until October 2012 to submit their applications. Round two of the programme will open to applications in June 2012 and we will stop accepting stage one applications December 2012 and expect to give decisions February 2014.
