Four funding areas: SUPPORTING DEVELOPING COUNTRIES Encouraging good relations between Britain and developing countries Who can apply? UK charities and education institutions The Supporting Developing Countries aspect of funding is concerned with the promotion of good relations between Britain and third world countries. Support is offered to finance visits to countries by teachers or other appropriate persons; providing financial assistance to overseas students or to those engaged in activities consistent with the charitable objects of the Trust. ARTS What is it for? Supporting arts related activities Who can apply? UK charities, schools and other educational organisations Support for the Arts is concerned with helping academic, educational or other organisations concerned with music, drama, dance and the arts. PRESERVATION What is it for? Preservation of historical buildings and churches Who can apply? UK charities The Preservation aspect of funding is concerned with the preservation of buildings and their contents and the repair and conservation of church furniture (including monuments, but excluding structural repairs to the church fabric). Preference is to be given to buildings and objects of the Georgian period. ENVIRONMENT AND HERITAGE What is it for? Preservation of countryside, landscapes and heritage Who can apply? UK Charities and other relevant organisations Funding for Environment and Heritage includes supporting charitable bodies or organisations associated with the preservation of the nations countryside, towns, villages and historic landscapes. Support is also offered for conservation projects within museums. More info at http://www.lechetrust.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ RURAL BROADBAND CHALLENGE FUND ANNOUNCED It is a new one million Euro challenge fund which aims to improve the coverage and the speed of broadband in rural areas. It will be delivered through the LEADER programme which supports small-scale, community driven projects in rural Scotland. Examples of possible projects for the new challenge fund include the upgrade of exchanges, pilot projects into next generation broadband and supporting a business collective to access better broadband. http://www.ruralgateway.org.uk/en/node/2430 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CASHBACK FOR COMMUNITIES: FUNDING FOR YOUTH GROUPS (SCOTLAND) Youth projects throughout Scotland have been invited to apply for funding from a £2.5 million pot of cash created from the proceeds of crime. The funding which is being made available through the CashBack for Communities scheme is the first portion of £6.5 million recovered earlier this year from a Russian money launderer with dealings in Scotland, which is now being invested directly back into local communities to provide free diversionary activities for young people. Announcements on use of the remaining funds will be made in coming months. The scheme, to be administered by YouthLink Scotland, the national youth work agency, has been allocated £2.5 million to distribute over the next two years to local youth projects in the form of grants up to a maximum of £30,000. Applications will be assessed by one of 32 local assessment panels consisting of local authority representatives (Community Learning and Development and Community Safety in particular); the voluntary sector; and trained young people. Regional surgeries will be scheduled to allow applicants to improve their bids. There are three application deadlines for Round 4. These are the 27th August 2010, the 28th January 2011 and the 16th September 2011…. http://tinyurl.com/kk6hy3 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EU CULTURE PROGRAMME LAUNCHES TWO NEW FUNDING STRANDS The European Commission has announced the launch of two new funding strands under its Culture Programme. The Culture Programme has been established to enhance the cultural area shared by Europeans, which is based on a common cultural heritage, through the development of cooperation activities among cultural operators from eligible countries, with a view to encouraging the emergence of European citizenship. The new funding strands will support European cultural festivals and Cooperation projects between organisations involved in cultural policy analysis. The closing date for applications to support European cultural festivals is the 15th November 2010 and for Cooperation projects between organisations involved in cultural policy analysis the 1st October 2010. Within the UK, the Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants to projects that address disadvantages, notably by supporting causes which are less likely to raise funds from public subscriptions. In particular, the Fund wants to support projects that address homelessness; asylum seekers and refugees; Community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people; Penal Affairs. Preference is given to supporting small community organisations with an income of less than £200,000 per year. During 2009 the average grant given was £5,000 http://www.hildencharitablefund.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ INTER FAITH YOUTH TRUST The Inter Faith Youth Trust (Alma Royalton-Kisch Trust), the only UK charitable trust solely to fund inter faith projects for young people’ has announced that it will be launching a small grants programme for organisations running events in and around Inter Faith Week 2010 - 21-27 November 2010. The Grant application form will be available on this site at the end of July 2010. The Trust has also announced that its General Grant Programme has been suspended for the time being…. http://ifyouthtrust.co.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ MUSEUMS GALLERIES SCOTLAND: CONNECTING GENERATIONS THROUGH MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES Museums Galleries Scotland has announced that it is seeking applications from Museums to support activities that bring together different generations. Museums Galleries Scotland aim to award approximately £2,500 to four projects which can be used to illustrate excellent practice in the area of intergenerational practice. This fund has been financed by SCIP (the Scottish Centre for Intergenerational Practice), which conducts research, provides information, commissions projects, delivers support and encourages involvement to the benefit of all of Scotland’s generations, by working, learning, volunteering and living together). Intergenerational activities can include any activity which may allow older and younger people to share activities in a creative and safe environment. 100% grants for intergenerational activities are available to museums eligible for the MGS Small Grant scheme. The closing date for applications is the 27th August 2010^# http://tinyurl.com/2wshxap ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IDEAS FUND GREEN IdeasTap, a creative network and funding body for emerging arts talent has announced that it is offering eight IdeasTap members £5,000 each to realise creative projects that either address green issues or are produced in an environmentally sustainable manner. IdeasTap are looking for ideas that offer exciting new angles on climate change - or new ways to make art in an eco-friendly fashion. It doesn’t matter what medium you work in - from film to theatre, photography to visual arts, music to poetry - Ideas Fund Green is open to all creative disciplines. The key is innovation. Applications can be submitted by individual Ideas Tap members or on behalf of groups of individuals work together. Pojects must take place between September 2010 and March 2011. The closing date for entries is 5pm on 9th August 2010 http://tinyurl.com/395gqna ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CEMEX COMMUNITY FUND The CEMEX Community Fund is a grant-giving fund established by CEMEX under the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme. Its aim is to support sustainable local community and environmental projects within 3 miles of a CEMEX operations. Each year Cemex makes available grants of between £1,000 and £15,000 to support a small number of projects in England, Scotland and Wales. Support is available for projects which provide and maintain public parks and amenities when the work protects the social built and/or natural environment and repair, or restore buildings or structures which are of religious, historical or architectural interest. Organisations wishing to apply need to be enrolled as an Environmental Body with Entrust, the Regulator of the Landfill Community Fund. Previously funded projects have included church roof repairs, kitchen extension to a parish hall; playground initiatives; environmental enhancements; etc. The deadline for applications is the 26th January 2011 for Stage 1 Expression of Interest forms http://www.cemexcf.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ UNLIMITED COMMISSIONS Unlimited Commissions is part of Unlimited, a celebration of disability, arts, culture and sport as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. It is principally funded by the Olympic Lottery Distributor, and is being delivered in partnership between London 2012, the four UK Arts Councils, and the British Council. Unlimited Commissions is a £1.5million commission fund to support the production of quality work by disabled and Deaf artists, and disabled and Deaf led arts organisations Applications must reflect the core values of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and meet the standard assessment criteria for Grants for the Arts applications. The programme is open to businesses set up as sole traders, partnerships, limited companies or community interest companies (including university or government spin-outs). Businesses must have been running for a minimum of three months and must have SME status (small and medium enterprise). Amounts of around £20,000 - £40,000 are available The deadline is 5 November 2010. http://www.shellspringboard.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EUROPEAN COMMISSION CALLS FOR PROPOSALS - CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMME The European Commission is currently calling for proposals to the Criminal Justice Programme. The call for Proposals for Action Grants is intended to co-finance national and transnational projects, The deadline for submission of applications is the 15 September 2010. The Call for Proposals for “e-Justice” intended to co- finance e-Justice projects. The deadline for submission of applications is the 4 August 2010. http://tinyurl.com/32qlvo9 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is the largest funder of heritage in the UK. It has 3 main grant programmes that can fund projects from £3,000 upwards: Your Heritage (£3,000 - £50,000) and Young Roots (£3,000 - £25,000) which are aimed at small community and voluntary organisations and the Heritage Grant scheme (grants of £50,000 or more) for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. All projects must help people learn about, get involved in and conserve their heritage. http://tinyurl.com/2dvcos4 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DEADLINES FROM WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Limited) WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Limited) has two grant schemes available for community-based projects: Small Grants Scheme – grants from £2,000 to £15,000; the total cost of the project cannot exceed £50,000 Main Grants Scheme – grants from £15,001 to £50,000; the total cost of the project cannot exceed £250,000. (WREN will contribute either a minimum of 20% or a max of 85% of the project costs). A few examples of eligible WREN projects include replacement doors and windows in a village hall or community centre, provision of children’s play equipment in a public open space, construction of footpaths and cycleway in a public park, construction of a multi-use games area or skate park. WREN can only help projects located within 10 miles of a Waste Recycling Group landfill site. The sites that cover South Yorkshire are Welbeck (Normanton, Wakefield), Skelbrook (North Elmsall) and Bootham Lane (Hatfield). Deadlines: 1 September 2010; 26 November 2010 http://www.wren.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ INVESTING IN IDEAS The Big Lottery Fund in Scotland (BIG) has announced the launch of the new Investing in Ideas Fund. Investing in Ideas awards grants of £500 to £10,000 to community groups; local authorities and social enterprises, etc to test and develop ideas that could eventually become fully- fledged projects or lead to improved service delivery within Scotlands Communities. Investing in Ideas could pay for the things that can turn basic ideas into a well- planned project. This can include; market research; feasibility studies; business planning; exchange visits in the UK to see how other projects work; community consultation; etc. The total funding available through the Investing in deas fund is £1 million and applications can be submitted at any time http://tinyurl.com/26njc9b ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE ASHDEN AWARDS FOR SUSTAINABILITY DEVELOPMENT The Ashden Awards for Sustainability Development are now open for applications. The aim of the award, which is open to schools, businesses, not for profit organisations, the construction sector, the public sector and for organisations that promote organisational change, is to reward organisations that have excelled at providing sustainable energy at a local level. The award is for existing not new projects. Awards are given for the benefits that sustainable energy brings rather than for the technology used. This year there will be a total of 6 UK awards. One gold award will have an award fund of £20,000 and the other five will receive an award fund of £10,000. Previous winners have included St Columb Minor School, Cornwall, who took a practical but fun-packed approach to driving energy use down by making eco pledges in class and at home, generating energy with wind and solar, and giving their building a green overhaul; and the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust, Scotland, who cut their carbon emissions by 50% by carefully managing their energy use, actively encouraging energy-saving in everyone’s daily life and generating 90% of electricity through renewable energy. The closing date for UK projects is the 26th October and for International projects the 19th October 2010.... http://www.ashdenawards.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY BASED GAELIC ARTS PROJECTS (SCOTLAND) Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the principal organisation charged with developing and supporting Gaelic is to support Gaelic community-based arts projects through a new fund, Tabhartasan Ealain. The new fund will support Gaelic arts activity such as drama, new writing and learning through arts in communities, helping to increase the number of Gaelic speakers by providing more opportunities for people to use Gaelic. In particular, the new fund is looking to support projects such as community drama groups, encourage new Gaelic writers of all kinds from fiction to song, storytelling and the use of new technologies to increase the use of Gaelic and also encourage people to learn the language. Up to £2,500 of funding support can be requested for projects which will take place before the 31st March 2011. The closing date for applications is August 6, 2010.... http://tinyurl.com/2v9wje7 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NATIONWIDE FOUNDATION SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME The Nationwide Foundation makes grants to registered UK charities (including those in Northern Ireland) which offer financial and / or housing related support to survivors of domestic abuse and older people. The funding programmes under which the Foundation makes grants to survivors of domestic abuse and older people includes developing financial capability and fighting financial exclusion and to support housing needs. Priority is given to applications for work engaging families of beneficiaries; applications for work which fits more than one objective (e.g. aims to address the financial and the housing issues of survivors of domestic violence / older people identified); and work supporting those groups identified who are from deprived areas. The maximum grant available is £5,000 and to be eligible, applicants need to be registered charities with a annual turnover of below £500,000. The Awards are an annual scheme that recognises and rewards small to medium sized charities that are doing excellent work to improve people''s health. Nine charities will receive £25,000 each, with one overall winner receiving £35,000. There will also be five highly commended awards of £5,000 and up to five runners-up awards of £3,000. Those organisations that win or are highly commended for an award will also be invited to send up to two representatives to take part in a free training programme, valued at £4,000. Previous winners have included; Arts for Health Cornwall and Isles of Scilly; HALE (overall winner); New Horizon Youth Centre. The scheme aims to support the production of 6 short films, and will provide successful filmmakers with; £2,000 of funding to make a short film up to 15 minutes in length; the opportunity to work with Neath Films to make their film; standard production insurance cover; production support; post production support including offline edit, grade and online edit. Films of any genre will be considered, but films must be suitable for viewing by all ages, and must be in British sign language. Although no actual money is available, organisations that successfully apply to the Google grants programme are provided with in kind support that translates into free advertising through Google Adwords. Google Adwords is Google’s online self-managed advertising programme where an organisation can manage its advertising campaign by creating and monitoring text ads that run on Google. Organisations create ads and choose keywords, which are words or phrases that are related to the organisation. When people search on Google using one of the keywords, the ad may appear next to the search results and people can click your ad to see your website. The value of the advertising that your organisation receives is solely dependent upon the performance of its ads in the programme. Results will vary; the typical grantee in our programme receives just over £200 worth of advertising on Google.co.uk per month. Support is particularly targeted at rare, life-limiting, longterm, debilitating and underfunded conditions.
