Projects linked to astronomy, space and particle physics are particularly encouraged. Grants of up to £500 may contribute to costs such as running a science week activity, organising a visit to or from a working physicist, supply cover, transport, marketing and publicity, and materials/resources. The closing date for applications is the 1st November 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbtpt ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE FIDELIO TRUST The Fidelio Trust is inviting applications from Colleges, Arts Festivals and other arts organisations seeking financial support for individuals or groups of exceptional ability to enable them to; receive special tuition or coaching; participate in external competitions; be supported for a specially arranged performance; receive support for a special publication, musical composition or work of art. The Trust offers grants of up to £5,000 in support of the Arts, in particular the dramatic and operatic arts, music, speech and dance. There are three application deadlines in the year. The next application deadline is the 1st October 2010. http://www.fideliocharitabletrust.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SUPPORT FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS Individuals and informal groups that wish to start or expand an existing social enterprise have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Scottish Government''s Social Entrepreneurs Fund and Scotland Unltd''s Millennium Awards. Depending on the needs of your project, there are three levels of funding available. These are; Level 0 awards which are for up to £500 and are made primarily through referrals; Level 1 Awards from £500 to £5,000 are to help make new ideas into real projects; and Level 2 Awards from £5,000 to £20,000 are to support projects that are already developed or to pay for the living expenses of Award Winners to give them more time for their project. Level 1 Awards are distributed ten times per year and Level 2 Awards are distributed 4 times a year. Formally constituted groups are not eligible to apply. http://www.socialentrepreneursfund.co.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ STATION COMMUNITY REGENERATION FUND Transport Scotland and ScotRail have announced a second wave of funding through the Stations Community Regeneration Fund (SCRF). The aim of the fund is to make use of disused railway station buildings. The Stations Community Regeneration Fund (SCRF) forms part of the agreement to extend the ScotRail franchise contract. The Fund aims to make use of disused station buildings as either a business meeting passenger or community needs or a community project which contributes to the local community. The Fund can be used to carry out structural repairs to buildings over and above normal railway works or to meet up to 50% of fit-out costs of the building for its intended use. No funding limit exists. However, any application seeking funding of £75,000 or more must be supported by a feasibility study. The scheme would not, however, expect to be used for proposals which require less than £5,000. The next round of applications close in October 2010 and anyone seeking more information should contact ScotRail at mailto:SCRF@firstgroup.com or by telephone on 0845 601 5929. http://www.scotrail.co.uk/content/scrf.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FOYLE FOUNDATION SCHOOLS LIBRARY PROGRAMME State funded secondary and primary schools as well as dedicated schools catering for those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) that do not have or want to improve their libraries can apply for funding through the Foyle Foundation Schools Library Programme. This programme recognises that there is no statutory requirement for schools to have a library and that many school libraries are in a desperate situation through under- funding and underdevelopment. Encouraging children to read widely from an early age will provide a major boost to improving literacy levels, which is a current key educational objective. Priority will be given to funding library books. The Foundation will also consider contributions towards library software, necessary IT equipment and specialist seating/desks. Preference will be given to schools which can clearly demonstrate that their library can be maintained and renewed in the future. The average grant made under this programme is £10,000. Applications can be submitted at any time. http://www.foylefoundation.org.uk/how-to-apply/state-schools.php ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE FUND The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) provides grants and low-cost loans for the conservation of scheduled or listed buildings, or those in conservation areas. The following grants and loans are available to qualifying charities: Options Appraisal Grants - up to 75% of the cost of looking at the key conservation issues affecting the building, examining all the available options, considering their viability, and exploring possible sources of funding. The maximum grant is normally £7,500, but in exceptional circumstances this can be up to £12,500 Project Development Grant - up to £25,000, available to Building Preservation Trusts only, to help with the costs of developing a project, and to take it towards the point where site work begins Low-interest loans - up to £500,000, available to registered charities to acquire and/or repair and re-use historic buildings. Repair grants are not available, only grants for conservation appraisal. The next deadline for applications is 12 August 2010, and the one after is 21 October 2010. http://www.ahfund.org.uk/finance ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FOUR ACRE TRUST The Four Acre Trust is inviting registered charities to apply for funding to support activities that give individuals - mainly children and young people - help in making the most of their lives. Eligible activities include; Mentoring schemes; Youth work in local communities; Breaks and holidays for young people; School holiday activity schemes; Adventure and other activity/training centres. Grants of up to £75,000 are available, but the majority are between £3,000 and £5,000. Trustees meet in February, April, June, August, October and December. Applications are usually processed within three months. http://www.fouracretrust.org.uk/application.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BERNARD SUNLEY CHARITABLE TRUST The Bernard Sunley Charitable Trust is a large charitable trust with a wide range of interests and limited written guidance for groups and organisations who wish to apply. There is no application form and very brief guidelines for applicants. To apply, you should write to the director of the Trust, giving details of; Your charity and its aims; How much your project will cost; The size of the grant requested; How much has already been raised and from whom How you plan to raise the shortfall. You should include an annual report and any other documentation that you feel could support your appeal. Grants range from £1,000 to £250,000, but most will be for less than £10,000. The foundation can support capital projects, endowments, scholarship funds, research programmes and research funding.Applications should be made to: John Rimmington Director The Bernard Sunley Charitable Trust 20 Berkely Square London W13 6LH ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PIZZA EXPRESS: THE VENEZIANA FUND The Veneziana Fund is offering funding for the preservation, restoration, repair and maintenance of UK buildings that were originally constructed before 1750. The fund covers the fixtures and fittings of such buildings, and will also fund the restoration and purchase of works of art created before 1750. The amount awarded depends on the number of applicants and the funds that the trust has available. Trustees do not consider appeals until at least two thirds of the sum required have been raised from other sources. No deadline has been set, but applications must reach the trust before the next meeting of trustees in Autumn 2010. The Foundation, which was set up to promote the musical legacy of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, aims to encourage new audiences to appreciate Britten’s work. The maximum value of an award is £100,000 per production. Only one award will be made if the same production is mounted by more than one company. Operatic groups wishing to apply should consider the following: Will the production be of a high artistic quality? Is the production likely to be mounted by more than one company? Will the production be seen in places where Britten’s work is less well known? Will young artists get to know Britten''s music by participating in the production? Will there be audience development through educational programmes? The Fundraising Section within the Community Toolkit can help your group plan a fundraising strategy and prepare effective applications to suitable funding organisations. It directs you to local sources of assistance, including grants and advice, and provides brief introductions to some of the funding opportunities currently on offer for a range of project types. http://digbig.com/5bbtqc ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CRIMINAL JUSTICE - CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR ACTION GRANTS The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals under its Criminal Justice programme. The aim of the programme is to promote judicial cooperation, the compatibility in rules applicable in the Member States and improving contacts, exchange of information, best practices and mutual trust. Under this call for proposals a total of ?10 million to address specific priorities identified for 2010. These are judicial training; supporting, or improving the implementation of adopted EU Instruments with a view to networking and exchanging best practice among practitioners, including on procedural rights and restorative justice; supporting victims of crime; judicial training; and supporting victims of crime. This call for proposals is open to public or private organisations, including professional organisations, universities, research institutes and legal and judicial training institutes for legal practitioners and non-governmental organisations. The closing date for applications is the 15th September 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbtqd ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CBA-DFID PROJECT DEVELOPMENT FUND The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association (CBA), which promotes the concept of public service broadcasting and fosters freedom of expression and the right to communicate within the Commonwealth has announced that it is seeking applications through the CBA-DFID Project Development Fund. The objectives of the CBA-DFID Project Development Fund are to promote better understanding of the developing world and to improve the quality and quantity of viable programme proposals in this area of output. The fund is open to established UK based programme makers and proposals can be of any genre. Grants are intended to help cover the costs of research, pilot filming and the procurement of filming rights. The maximum grant available is £10,000 (maximum 80% of development budget). The closing date for applications is the 17th October 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbtqe ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ £1,000 GRANT FOR INNOVATION IN GEOGRAPHY TEACHING The Royal Geograpical Society has announced that it is seeking applications through the Ray Y Gildea Jr Award. The aim of the award is to encourage and facilitate innovation in teaching and learning in any field of geography in higher or secondary education. A single award of £1,000 is given annually to one innovative teaching project. This award is open to secondary teachers or university lecturers in the UK and the USA. The outcomes of the grant should show direct benefit to students of geography. The deadline for applications is the 15th October 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbtqg ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ STELIOS AWARD FOR DISABLED ENTREPRENEURS The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation is giving disabled entrepreneurs in the UK the chance to win £50,000 prize to fund the further growth of their business, and become Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur of the Year 2010. To be eligible to enter individuals must own at least 25% management stake in their company; have a turnover in excess of £10,000; have been trading for between 1 and 5 years; and the business must be registered in the UK. This Award is sponsored by Sir Stelios Hajiloannou, the serial entrepreneur best known for founding easyJet. Past winners include; John Pickup, 40 an amputee, began Amputees in Action, a company that specialises in supplying amputee extras and stuntmen for Hollywood films, television and for armed forces casualty training in 2004; Andrew, from Grangemouth in Scotland, is a Director of Sign-now.com, a web-based video conferencing translation service which enables deaf people to communicate with the hearing public. He has been profoundly deaf since birth and uses British Sign Language as his main means of communication. Entry for the Award will close on the 3rd September 2010 at 5pm. http://digbig.com/5bbtqj ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EPSRC COLLABORATION FUND The Collaboration Fund, a £2m grant fund financed by the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), is offering grants of up to £100,000 to academics in the UK research organisations working with at least one commercialising partner. The Collaboration Fund aims to support the transition of ideas arising from ESPRC supported research into commercial applications. The intention is to enhance academic engagement with companies and industry and to facilitate economic impact at the highest level. The Collaboration Fund will support a wide range of activities which can be demonstrated to further advance the research or technology to the point of commercial exploitation within the award period. These activities could include; developing a prototype with the involvement of a commercialising partner; undertaking trials and testing with a commercialising partner; technical development that will offer a competitive edge or improve points of differentiation; incorporation of the technology into an existing product, service or process. Veterans must be resident in the UK or Republic of Ireland to be eligible. Grants of between £150 and £5,500 are available, and can be made to both individuals and groups. The scheme runs between 1st April 2010 and 31st January 2011. There is an application helpline available to assist prospective applicants. It does this by offering a wide range of funding schemes. Each scheme has its own criteria, eligibility rules and application processes. The charity administers a number of grants schemes that support repair and conservation projects. It also provides advice and information on a range of war memorial issues. Individuals or organisations can apply. Anyone interested in applying for a grant is asked to complete an Expression of Interest form available from the website or by contacting the charity. This form will be assessed by the Conservation Team who will advise on eligibility and the appropriate grant scheme. A Bursary is awarded to enable individuals or groups to enhance their knowledge in order to help their club, organisation or community to develop their chosen sport. Generally small levels of support Details The Trust supports young athletes (13-18) from a wide variety of sports across Scotland. Preference is given to top junior level athletes competing in minority sports. The following sports are not eligible: football, cricket, rugby, golf, tennis. Funding is intended to be used to help with additional coaching or to help pay for competition fees and the travel costs associated with travelling to events in locations outside of Scotland.
