Support for a range of charitable activities around Scotland Who can apply? Charities and community groups working in Scotland What is available? Encouraging young people to get involved in cycling Who can apply? UK charities and community groups working with children and young people What is available? Up to £2,000 Bike Club uses cycling to engage with children and young people. Funding is available to help groups establish cycling initiatives that could benefit children and young people. Funding can be used, for example, to: purchase any equipment needed to run a Bike Club, for example, bikes and helmets; build places to ride, for example, off-road courses, BMX jumps or ramps; cycling instructors secure storage http://bikeclub.org.uk/resources/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GEOVATION CHALLENGE GeoVation is set up and funded by Ordnance Survey. It runs challenges to meet communities needs, which may be able to be met through the use of geography (data, skills and expertise). The current challenge it is running is How Can Britain Feed Itself? You have to post your idea on the GeoVation website. If your idea is picked you make a pitch at a weekend GeoVation camp and if you are successful at this stage, you will be able to make a pitch for a share of the £25,000 prize fund. The deadline for this challenge is 3 September 2010. Current programmes are: Mental Health Domestic and Sexual Abuse Refugee and Asylum Seeking Women Sport for Change Older People Young People aged 11-25: - Sexually Exploited and Trafficked Young People - Young People and Alcohol - Young People with Mental Health Problems Under these main grants programme, awards are usually made for up to three years and are typically between £5000 and £100,000. Forthcoming deadlines Older People and Sport for Change; 3 September and 17 December 2010 All other main grants; 17 September 2010 and 7 January 2011 Small grants for Local Communities Our Small grants of up to £5000 for local communities are administered by the Scottish Community Foundation 0141 225 6670. Restoring Scotland’s water environments Who can apply? Environmental organisations and local government agencies in Scotland What is available? Variable The Water Environment Restoration Fund supports initiatives that will improve Scotland’s water environments. The aim of the Fund is to deliver physical improvements to river, loch, estuarine and coastal water bodies and wetlands. Projects seeking funding should aim to improve the environmental status or condition of a waterbody by tackling the physical pressures on that system. Where possible, projects should also deliver a wider range of environmental, social and economic benefits. Examples of projects that could be considered for funding are: restoring natural processes in rivers or lochs; engineering degraded rivers to restore natural profiles, for example by recreating meanders; removal or modification of man-made barriers to improve fish passage and sediment transport; restoration of flood plains, coastal intertidal zones and wetlands; scoping studies to assess costed options for physical restoration works; control of non native invasive bank side and instream plant species. http://digbig.com/5bcfrb ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HABITAT ENHANCEMENT DEMONSTRATION SITE SCHEME What is it for? Enhancing Scotland’s environmental habitats Who can apply? Charities, community groups, public service agencies What is available? Variable This scheme can support projects that will act as demonstration sites for protecting and enhancing natural habitats. Projects may include the protection, restoration and improvement of existing habitats, or the creation of new habitats. They can range from small scale works done by individuals or community groups to large scale multipartner projects. Exhibition and travel Award for Scottish artists Who can apply? Artists in Scotland What is available? £2,000 The JD Fergusson Arts Award is an annual travel and exhibition award for artists born in Scotland, or having lived there more than half their lives there. Applicants must not be in full-time education and have not won any major awards to date. There is no age restriction and work in any medium is considered. Other than the prestige of winning it, the award value is about £2,000 as well as a solo exhibition at the Fergusson Gallery in Perth. http://digbig.com/5bcfrd ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ J MACDONALD MENZIES CHARITABLE TRUST GRANTS What is it for? Relief of sickness and ill health Who can apply? Charities and community groups working in Scotland What is available? Variable The Trust funds activities that focus on the preservation and protection of health, or the relief of sickness and disease. Particular priority is given to activities that address the relief of heart disease, cancer, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. http://www.oscr.org.uk/CharityIndexDetails.aspx?id=SC032370 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PLAYGROUND PARTNERSHIPS AWARDS The Kids Fist Trust has announced that schools within the UK that wish to improve their play spaces will have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Playground Partnerships Awards from the 23rd of September 2010 when the scheme will re-open. Schools wishing to apply will initially have to register with the Award Scheme to access further information and the application pack. To be considered for an award, schools need to submit a folder of work (Design Portfolios) and completed application form. Applicants are encouraged to develop a pupil-led approach; involve the whole school; encourage input from the wider school community and include pupils with special educational needs. http://kidsfirsttrust.org/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ VOLANT CHARITABLE TRUST Registered charities whose purpose is to alleviate poverty and social deprivation with particular emphasis on children and women''s issues have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Volant Charitable Trust. The Trust which was set up by the author J K Rowling also supports research into the causes, treatment and possible cures of Multiple Sclerosis. However this funding stream is currently fully committed and is not considering further applications for funding in this area at the present time. In addition the Trustees will as and when appropriate, support disaster appeals. The Trust will support both capital and revenue funding. Applications for funding requests of £10,000 or less, for those projects based in Scotland only, are dealt with by the Trust''s appointed agents, the Scottish Community Foundation. The Trustees have already committed funds for overseas projects, and are not, therefore, considering further applications for projects outside the UK at present. The closing date for applications is the 28th January 2011. http://www.volanttrust.com/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ YOUNG PERSONS VOLUNTEERING FUND The SITA Trust has announced the next funding round of its new Young Person''s Volunteering Fund. Through this new fund, the SITA Trust can provide grants of up to £10,000 for volunteering projects owned by 14-25 year olds. The SITA Trust can support projects in any of 90 funding zones around qualifying waste processing sites operated by their donor, SITA UK. This fund has been created to assist young people aged 14-25 to volunteer their time to create or enhance facilities that can be enjoyed by the wider community. To be eligible applicants must be able to demonstrate that young people will be fully involved in the design and development of the project and projects must be compliant with the rules of the Landfill Communities Fund. The closing date for applications is 10am on 15th October 2010. http://www.sitatrust.org.uk/volunteering ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NET SOLUTIONS WALES IT GRANTS Net Solutions Wales are offering grants of up to £10,000 to UK Voluntary Organisation''s or registered Charities which have no more than 200 employees and which are already trading. Grants may be used for developing a project, expanding an existing Group or improving efficiency and communication, and cover PC''s, Website Development, training, software and any capital items required. Projects that have been awarded include; community re-generation/enrichment; community activities; and groups which involve their communities in learning new skills. Applications are accepted on a first come first serve basis. http://digbig.com/5bcfrj ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ WILLIAM AND JANE MORRIS FUND The Morris Fund was formed in 1939 following the death of May Morris, the younger daughter of William and Jane Morris. Under the terms of her will the Society received her residuary estate ‘for the purpose of providing a fund for the protection of ancient buildings''. Applications will be accepted according to the following criteria and terms: grants are limited to churches, chapels and other places of worship in the United Kingdom; only buildings or monuments erected before 1896 (the date of William Morris''s death) will be eligible; assurances are required that grant-aided work will be completed within one year of receipt of the grant; the completion of the work must be certified by an appropriate professional; preference is given to limited programmes of work concerned with the conservation of decorative features; for example, stained glass windows, sculpture, furniture, internal monuments and tombs, and wall paintings; grants towards major structural repairs and fabric maintenance are considered only under exceptional circumstances; There are two deadlines each year: 31 August and 31 March. http://www.sal.org.uk/grants/williamandjanemorris/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ WILL CHARITABLE TRUST The Will Charitable Trust makes grants in the areas of: Cancer care Blind people Learning disabilities Conservation The deadlines for the different programmes are: Blind people and Learning disabilities Applications should be submitted from November and by 31 January at the latest. Cancer care and Conservation Applications should be submitted from June and by 31 August at the latest. http://www.willcharitabletrust.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EC - PREVENTION AND FIGHT AGAINST CRIME PROGRAMME There is a European Commission call for proposals to the ISEC 2010 Action Grants under the Prevention and Fight Against Crime Programme. Projects can be national or transnational and cover a range of priorities. Priorities which may be of particular interest to voluntary and community organisations include: Trafficking in human beings (prevention, protection of victims) Projects examining radicalisation leading to terrorism Prevention of crime (including urban, juvenile, environmental, firearms and drugs related crimes). See the guidance document for the full range of priorities and other information relating to the call. The call for proposals covers four themes: Crime prevention and criminology Law enforcement Protection and support to witnesses Protection of victims. The deadline is 29 October 2010. http://digbig.com/5bcftw ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FIELD STUDIES COUNCIL The Field Studies Council (FSC) has grants available through the Kids Fund to help towards the cost of groups of disadvantaged young people attending residential environmental learning and environmental activity courses at an FSC centre.
