Awards of up to £10,000 Creme of Nature offers an annual award to groups focused on supporting people from African Caribbean backgrounds. This year, voluntary, faith and community groups, whose primary objective is to support and encourage women, can apply for the Award. Priority is given to groups with a turnover of less than £50,000. Helping young chamber musicians Who can apply? Young professional chamber music groups What is available? Variable, see below The Music Club Award is not a grant scheme, but instead offers paid engagements with local Music Clubs throughout Scotland (usually arranged in short tours). The Trust will meet fees, travel expenses and accommodation. The objective is to provide invaluable experience and an introduction to the logistics of planning and carrying out tours. Support for young people to be involved in music Who can apply? Relevant charities and groups from around the UK What is available? Variable The BRIT Trust supports activities that encourage young people in the exploration and pursuit of educational, cultural or therapeutic benefits emanating from music. The Trust has a main financial commitment to the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre, and so is limited to the amount of donations it can make outside of this commitment. Charities and community groups throughout the UK The Enid Blyton Trust for Children offers small grants to charitable organisations that support children (under 16) who are in need. More info: http://digbig.com/5bbada ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GRANTS FOR ADULT EDUCATION ASSISTANTSHIPS IN EUROPE Individuals working in Adult Education whether formal, nonformal or informal have the opportunity to apply for funding to spend a period of 12-45 weeks as a Grundtvig Assistant at an adult education organisation in another European country participating in the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP). To obtain a grant, applicants will need to give a clear indication that the proposed Assistantship is relevant to their current or intended area of adult education work; will improve their personal / work skills, including language ability; and will contribute to the host organisation and community. Depending on their specific profile, the Assistant may either; play a mainly ancillary role at the host organisation, assisting in various teaching or management activities; take full responsibility for one or more courses or a particular aspect of management at the host organisation (such cases are known as Expert Assistantships). Applicants can apply for up to ?4,000 for up to 16 weeks; ?6,000 for up to 24 weeks; and ?8,000 for up to 45 weeks. Grants are for subsistence including travel costs. Applicants that are likely to need additional income while they undertake their Assistantship should arrange this themselves. There is also an opportunity for Adult Education organisations in the UK to host an assistant from overseas. The next closing date for applications is the 31st March 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbadr ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NATIONAL LOTTERY AWARDS The National Lottery has announced that the National Lottery Awards are currently open for entries. Under the National Lottery Awards members of the public can vote for their favourite National Lottery Funded project. There are seven categories - each reflecting an area of Lottery funding: Sport; Heritage; Arts; Environment; Voluntary/Charity (in association with Woman magazine), Health and Education. The entrants that make it to the finals of The National Lottery Awards will appear on a star-studded prime-time BBC1 TV show later this year. They will also have a chance to win a £2,000 cash prize. Entries must be received by 5pm on Friday 12 February. http://www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/mediacentre/pressitem.cfm?id=270 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BREAKFAST CLUB FAMILY GRANTS PROGRAMME Schools, nurseries, children''s centres, other educational and community organisations that provide services for children, young people and families in the UK are being invited by ContinYou to apply for a grant of £350 through the Breakfast Club Family Grants Programme. The aim of the programme is to enable a school or a community groups to develop a sustainable family dimension within an existing breakfast club that will support hard-to-reach or vulnerable children, and enable children from families that are in the greatest need to benefit from the breakfast club provision. These grants are available thanks to the children who raised money during the Mission Nutrition appeal, which ContinYou took part in, in partnership with the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens and Save the Children. The deadline for applications is the 26th February 2010. http://digbig.com/5bbadq ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ EUROPE''S INFORMATION SOCIETY POLICY SUPPORT PROGRAMME The European Commission has launched the fourth call for proposals under Europe''s Information Society Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP). The aim of the ICT PSP is to support transnational pilot actions and thematic networks to stimulate innovation and competitiveness through the wider uptake and best use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by citizens, governments and businesses. The themes for the 2010 call for proposals are; using ICT for a low carbon economy and smart mobility; developing Digital Libraries; ICT for health and inclusion; open innovation for future internet-enabled services in "smart" cities; ICT for improved public services for citizens and businesses; and developing a multilingual web. This call for proposals is open to consortiums of organisations consisting of national Governments, public administrations and private sector organisations from a minimum number of different Member States or associated countries. The total budget available is ? 108 Million. Closing date for applications will be the 1st June 2010. http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/ict_psp/index_en.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HILDEN CHARITABLE FUND The Hilden Charitable Fund has announced that the next deadline for submitting applications is the 26th March 2010. Within the UK, the Hilden Charitable Fund makes grants to projects that address disadvantages, notably by supporting causes which are less likely to raise funds from public subscriptions. In particular, the Fund wants to support projects that address homelessness; asylum seekers and refugees; Community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people; Penal Affairs. Preference is given to supporting small community organisations with an income of less than £200,000 per year. During 2009 the average grant given was £5,000. http://www.hildencharitablefund.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PRS FOR MUSIC FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2010 APPLICATION DEADLINES The PRS for Music Foundation, which is the UK''s largest independent funder for new music of any genre has announced the closing dates for its funding schemes for 2010. Its main aims are to stimulate and support the creation and performance of new music in the UK, ensuring this reaches a wide audience. The PRS Foundation , provides a range of grants to support performance groups, festivals, promoters and organisations. Since March 2000 it has supported over 3000 new music initiatives with over £12 million. The average size of grants in 2008 was £3,000. The closing dates for applications are the 12th February, 16th April, 9th August and the 15th October. http://www.prsformusicfoundation.com/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BBC CHILDREN IN NEED GRANTS BBC Children in Need provides grants for up to three years to properly constituted not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged young people aged 18 or under. Funding is available to organisations (including schools) that work with young people who are suffering from illness, distress, abuse or neglect, are disabled, have behavioural or psychological difficulties and / or are living in poverty or situations of deprivation. Last year the programme made grants of £33 million to over 1,500 organisations. Examples of projects that recently received funding are: 27A Access Artspace Ltd (£21, 690) - the project will provide drama sessions for children and young people with a disability and their siblings; Relate Northamptonshire (£58, 589) - the project will provide counselling for disadvantaged children and young people in six schools in Northamptonshire, who have experienced domestic abuse, drug and alcohol abuse and family break up; Bushbury Nursery School in Wolverhampton (£67,645) - the project will develop and provide a series of Stay and Play sessions, a Toy library, and outreach work for children and their parents in the Bushbury area. The next closing date 15th April 2010. http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/grants/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DFID LAUNCHES FUND TO SUPPORT WORK OF COMMUNITY GROUPS The Department for International Development has announced the launch of its new £7 million Development Innovation Fund (DIF). This fund which is open to any small community based organisation such Scout troops, Church groups, groups from the Women''s Institute and Rotary Clubs, etc will provide grants to support their work that targets poverty in the developing world, including development awareness work in the UK. Grants of up to £60,000 are available for one off projects lasting for up to 1 year. Applications must show that the intended activities will improve the lives of poor people in the developing world and also how the intended work will be used to help raise awareness of development issues in the UK.
