Up to £1,000 The Fredrick Andrew Convalescent Trust offers grants to help women meet the costs of getting ‚ better following an illness or accident. Improving healthcare processes Who can apply? UK organisations working in the field of healthcare What is available? Up to £75,000 The Shine Awards help healthcare practitioners try out their ideas in a way that can be measured and proven. The Shine challenge for 2011 is to find new approaches to delivering healthcare that reduce the need for acute hospital care – while improving quality and saving money. Applications are invited for new ideas that go beyond the usual well-tried methods to improving efficiency, and instead use innovation to deliver better outcomes through different approaches to care. Additionally applicants must have the ability to pull together a team with experience in innovation, change management, measurement and self-evaluation to deliver results within the 12 month period of the project. http://tinyurl.com/3y3uwrz ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SCOTTISH GREEN BUS FUND What is it for? Encouraging the introduction of low carbon buses in Scotland Who can apply? Bus companies and public transport transport providers around Scotland What is available? Up to £1million The aim of the fund is to encourage the introduction of low carbon buses across Scotland. Bids can be made to help buy new Low Carbon Vehicles. Applications are invited from Bus Operators, Local Authorities; Regional Transport Partnerships (RTPs); and companies leasing/renting LCVs to the above bodies in Scotland. http://tinyurl.com/22rysrr ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ COMMUNITY ENERGY SAVING PROGRAMME (CESP) What is it for? Improving energy efficiency in UK households Who can apply? Local Authorities, community organisations throughout the UK What is available? Variable CESP helps households in areas of low income to improve energy efficiency standards, and reduce fuel bills. There are 4,500 areas eligible for CESP. The programme is delivered through the development of community-based partnerships between Local Authorities, community groups and energy companies, via a house-by-house, street-by-street approach. Around 100 schemes are expected to be supported (benefiting around 90,000 homes, saving 3m tonnes of CO2 emissions, and delivering fuel bill savings of up to £300 per households. http://tinyurl.com/3xrfp66 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FUNDING FOR ROAD SAFETY AND INLAND TRANSPORT PROJECTS The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals to promote its transport policy objectives in the areas of road safety and inland waterway transport. A total of €2.25 million is available for projects that amongst others include the development and implementation of innovative communication road safety campaigns throughout the European Union; the use of original teaching approaches and new information technologies to influence user behaviour in a sustainable manner; improve road safety in Europe; projects relating to the impact that an ageing population has on road safety; projects on the impact that gender has on driving and road behaviour; and creating a network of centres for promoting inland waterway navigation. The Commission is prepared to support multiannual operations of a maximum duration of 36 months. The closing date for applications is the 15th September 2010. http://tinyurl.com/36rhga9 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SCOTTISH POWER GREEN ENERGY TRUST Local community groups and not for profit organisations and charities within the UK can apply for grants for the installation of renewable technologies. The funding which is available through the Scottish Power Green Energy Trust will provide grants of up to 25,000 (but most projects receive around £10,000) for up to half the cost of the chosen renewable technology. The maximum amount would only be awarded to exceptional projects that tick all the boxes and demonstrate real value for money. Projects also need to have a really strong community benefit and wider educational element. The Trust considers all kinds of renewable technologies, including small-scale hydro, wind power, biomass, landfill gas, solar energy and ground source heat pumps. Applications involving other technologies may also qualify for support. Grant requests must be to support the capital and installation costs of a renewable energy project. The Trust meets twice a year to consider applications – usually during the first week of April and October and applications should be submitted as soon as possible. http://tinyurl.com/3ydgr8e ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HEALTHY HEARTS GRANTS Heart Research UK is now inviting applications under its Healthy Heart Grants Scheme. Heart Research UK Healthy Heart Grants support innovative projects designed to promote heart health and to prevent or reduce the risks of heart disease in specific groups or communities. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to community groups, voluntary organisations and researchers who are spreading the healthy heart message. The types of projects supported in the past have included; the Foresight Project in Grimsby which encourages visually impaired people to take regular exercise using tandem bicycles; the Ross-shire Bravehearts project in Inverness which educates adults with learning difficulties about heart health so they can take part in physical activities; and Superleague team, Wakefield Wildcats, which uses star rugby players to educate children about heart health. There are two applications rounds per year. Applications are only accepted during January and February for the May round of grants and July and August for grants awarded in November, each year. http://tinyurl.com/3xynuya ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ HELP THE HOMELESS Help the Homeless, a national Charity which aims to help homeless people throughout the United Kingdom to resume a normal life, is currently accepting applications from small and medium sized charities and voluntary organisations . Grants of up to £3,000 are available towards capital costs to support projects that assist disadvantaged individuals in their return to mainstream society, through residential or training facilities. Grants to larger charities may be considered if the project is suitable innovative and only possible for a larger organisation to develop it. Previous projects supported include a grant of £2,845 to Lamp Community towards the cost of computers for reintegration work at their drop-in centres and a grant of £2000 to Spires, a South London Homeless charity towards the cost of providing their daily services to clients, including food and clothing. There are four application deadlines a year. The next application deadline is the 30th September 2010. http://www.help-the-homeless.org.uk/Grants.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE ARCHER TRUST The Archer Trust is a UK Christian charitable grant-making trust, that aims to support small UK charities that help people with physical or mental disabilities or people facing disadvantage. Preference will be given to those organisations working in areas of high unemployment and deprivation. The trust will fund projects in the UK and overseas (only via UK charities which can ensure that funds are being well used). The grants available range from £250 - £3,000. Applications can be made at any time. Trustees meet twice a year, normally in March and September to consider applications. http://www.archertrust.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ MOTO TRUST COMMUNITY GRANT SCHEME Local charities and community groups that are located within the employment catchment area of one of the 49 Moto Service stations(25 mile radius) may be eligible to apply for funding through the Moto Trust’s Community Grant Scheme. Although there is no minimum or maximum grant size, the Trust has indicated that it is unlikely to support any applications above £10,000. In order to apply for a Grant, you should contact the relevant Moto Service Area to introduce your organisation. The General Manager of the Moto location will submit an application to the Trustees if the project/cause meets the criteria set by the Trust. The General Manager must agree that the project/cause is strongly supported by Moto people and can offer opportunities for Moto people to offer physical as well as the financial assistance of the Trust. Preference will be given to projects which have a long term relationship with Moto, for example schools or community groups which Moto has a relationship with. Grants are approved by the Trustees every three months. For further information, including the dates of Trustee meetings please click on the link below. http://tinyurl.com/3y5quvz ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CARBON TRUST TO LAUNCH NEW FUNDING PROGRAMME The Carbon Trust, which provides specialist support to business and the public sector to help cut carbon emissions, has announced that from September 2010 onwards it will be accepting applications under its new Entrepreneur Fast Track Programme. The Fast Track Programme, which brings together the Carbon Trusts Applied Research Programme and its Business Incubation schemes aims to support the most commercially viable and innovative carbon saving technologies. Under this programme, the Carbon Trust will offer a customised package of support to companies and organisations that may include; research and development grants up to £500,000; expert commercialisation advice (up to a value of £75,000), and investor and business network opportunities. The first applications will be reviewed by the Carbon Trust in September/October 2010. http://tinyurl.com/362uzup ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ CEREBRA GRANTS Cerebra, a charity which aims to improve the lives of children with neurological conditions, is accepting applications to its grants scheme. The condition may be of a physical nature, a learning difficulty, or both. Grants can be made for resources or equipment. These must improve the child’s quality of life and not be available from statutory agencies like social services or the NHS. The child also must be aged 16 or under. Some examples of grants made are touch screen computers, holidays, approved therapies, power wheelchairs, and sensory toys. There is no set deadline. For more information, visit the Cerebra website. http://www.cerebra.org.uk/grants ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE PERCY BILTON CHARITY The Percy Bilton Charity offers grants to UK registered charities whose primary objectives are to assist one or more of the following groups: Disadvantaged / underprivileged young people aged under 25 People with disabilities, including physical or learning disabilities or mental health problems People over the age of 60. The Charity has two programmes for organisations to apply to: Large grants – offering one off payments for capital expenditure of £2,000 and over Small grants - offering up to £500 towards furnishings and equipment for small projects. This programme is more suitable for smaller organisations. There is no set deadline, but Board meetings are held quarterly in March, June, September and December to consider large grants. Applications may be submitted at any time and will be considered at the next appropriate Board meeting. Applications for small grants are considered monthly. For more information, visit the Charity’s website. http://www.percybiltoncharity.org.uk/index.htm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ROALD DAHL FOUNDATION - DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES, COMMON EXPERIENCE The Different Disciplines, Common Experience Programme, which is managed by the Roald Dahl Foundation, aims to improve patient care for children with long term conditions. The Programme provides grants of up to £7,500 to enable specialist nurses in the fields of paediatric neurology and haematology to carry out initiatives to improve the quality of patient care. The findings of each project will be disseminated widely to improve the profile and quality of specialist paediatric nursing in general. Before completing an application form, applicants must submit an Expression of Interest form by 2 August 2010. Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education. This call for proposals aims to foster cooperation between European and third country higher education institutions from the South Mediterranean Region (Egypt, Israel and occupied Palestinian Territory), the Central Asian Republics and the Western Balkans through the exchange of students and academics. The overall available amount under this call for proposals is €15.2 million aiming at a minimum mobility flow of 653 individuals. The deadline for submission of applications under all three Actions is the 15th October 2010. http://tinyurl.com/34nxjdk ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ MEDIA MUNDUS PROGRAMME 2011-2013. The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals under its MEDIA MUNDUS programme. The MEDIA Mundus programme supports cooperation projects between European professionals and professionals from third countries, to the mutual benefit of the European audiovisual sector and that of third countries. Under this call for proposals, nearly €5 million is available to support the strengthening the skills of European and third- country professionals; to promote access to international markets for audiovisual works; to promote the distribution, promotion, screening and diffusion of European works in third-country markets and of audiovisual works from third countries in Europe; and to support cross-over activities that touch upon : this action several priorities of this programme, e.g. trainings with subsequent pitching events at co- production meetings. This call covers projects starting between 1 February 2011 and 31 December 2011 and projects must be completed by 31 March 2012 at the latest. The closing date for applications is the 15th October 2010. http://tinyurl.com/2v3oo9l ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ SUS IT OUT PLUS Regional and local constituted not-for-profit groups and charities in Scotland that want to improve what they do can apply for support through the Sus it Out Plus Programme. Sus it Out Plus is a project funded by the Big Lottery Fund in Scotland and developed by Forward Scotland. It aims to help communities come together, reducing local environmental impacts and increasing community’s likelihood of attracting additional funding. Successful applicants received an individual session with a Sus it Out Plus facilitator to create a Sustainable Communities Action Plan leading to funding of £1500 to support training and other capacity building supports. There is the opportunity for up to 200 community groups to access this support between 2010 and 2012 and there is a rolling application with no fixed deadlines. The final dates for expressions of interest are 31 March 2012. http://www.susitout.org.uk/ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BRITISH ECOLOGICAL SOCIETY - EDUCATION GRANTS The British Ecological Society is offering grants to enable teachers to make the teaching of ecology more innovative, interesting and exciting in primary, secondary and tertiary schools. The aim of this grant is to promote good practice in teaching ecology and to support ecology teaching that is innovative, inspiring and intellectually stimulating. Grants are available to enable teachers to develop and resource innovative teaching and learning activities and/or to undertake research to evaluate methods of teaching ecology. This can be achieved in many different ways and can include projects based in or outside of the classroom. Grants of up to £1,500 are available and there are two application deadlines per year. Allen Charitable Trust is a general charitable trust, which offers grants of around £5,000 to UK registered charities. The Trustees are prepared to fund core costs as well as capital projects, but they are unlikely to provide initial funding for newly established organisations. They do not make grants to individuals or to organisations that are not UK registered charities. There is no application form. The Trustees meet quarterly to decide grant allocation. Performing arts: The Foundation gives financial support for not-for-profit companies with a record of artistic excellence that require additional funding, not available from public sources or commercial sponsorship. Assistance will also be considered for training and professional development for creative talent or the technical professions. Music: The Foundation considers applications for support in those areas of music performance and education which do not attract backing from commercial sponsors or other funding bodies, or which are not eligible for public funding. Priority will be directed towards supporting the work or education of musicians based in, or wishing to study in, the UK, but by no means exclusively so. An important criterion will be whether the funding sought will make a significant difference to the applicant’s prospects. Charitable organisations and community groups can apply for grants of between £100 and £2,000 (£500 if the applicant is a newly formed group) to help them find co-operative solutions to community challenges. The Co-operative Group is particularly interested in supporting locally led and run groups that can demonstrate co-operative values and principles, such as self-help, equality, democracy and concern for the community. Last year the total funding available was over £1 million. Applications can be submitted at any time…. http://tinyurl.com/36v4a9j ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Changing Lives Programme Crisis, the national Homeless Charity has announced that its Changing Lives Programme will re-open for applications in October 2010. The Crisis Changing Lives programme provides financial awards of up to £2,500 to solitary people who are homeless or settling into a home and looking for support so that they may achieve their vocational goals. The Awards can be used for; course fees; equipment or materials for courses; tools materials and equipment to get back to work; and to set up a business. Applications can not be made by the homeless person, but rather by the support organisation providing ongoing help. This could be a key worker, someone providing guidance concerning training or employment, a housing support officer or someone like a mental health worker. http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/crisis-changing-lives.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ NEW FUND FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES A new fund has been launched to help improve the long-term sustainability of the British countryside. The Prince’s Countryside Fund inspired by The Prince of Wales’s aims to raise money from a wide range of businesses and their consumers to help improve the long-term sustainability of the British countryside and its rural communities. The Fund will provide grants for up to three years to support projects that improve the sustainability of British farming in areas of deprivation; projects to improve the sustainability of rural communities; and projects to reconnect people with the countryside. Funding is available for both capital and revenue funding. Applicants can be, but do not need to be, charities. All applicants must however be able to clearly demonstrate a significant level of public benefit arising from their activities (which fulfil the Fund’s charitable objects). The Prince’s Countryside Fund has identified the three initial projects it will support and is likely to announce the next funding round later this year. http://www.princescountrysidefund.org.uk ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PRIMARY TEACHERS PROJECT Primary Teachers that would like to develop their language skills as well as benefit from spending a week in a primary school abroad can apply for funding of up to €2,500 to cover travel and subsistence as well as a contribution of £525 towards supply cover for the week of term time involved . This project involves spending two consecutive weeks in France, Germany or Spain. The first week of the project is devoted to intensive language and methodology training, while the second is spent work shadowing in a primary school. The application deadline for all projects is the 15th September 2010. The funding is available through the Nominet Trust. The aim of the Trust is to fund innovative Internet projects that make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people, primarily in terms of education, safety and inclusion. The Trust is particularly interested in funding projects that can be scaled up and replicated. The Trust was initially awarded £5 million from Nominet, the Internet registry for .uk domains. Previously projects supported through the Trust include Pottery Primary School, Belper, which received funding towards the costs of printed material to raise awareness to parents, children and the community of internet risks and safety measures and the British Computer Association of the Blind which received funding for its EyeT4All project which provides small groups of newly visually-impaired people with a hands-on day using a computer, at a local venue free of charge, to show them what IT can do for them and how it can improve the quality of their lives. There is no minimum grant application and applications for over £100,000 require an interview. Organisations wishing to apply need initially to complete and online eligibility questionnaire. Those organisations deemed successful will be provided with a link to a more detailed application form. Grant application will be considered by the board of trustees. They meet three times a year.
