Glasgow City Council

The Council is committed to the social inclusion of groups of citizens who are marginalised and who experience discrimination. Currently the four priority areas for action are women, black people and those from ethnic minorities, disabled people and lesbian, gay, bisxual and transgender (LGBT) people.

Policy is determined by the Executive Committee, chaired by Councillor Stephen Purcell, Leader of the Council. Councillor Rabbani the Council’s spokesperson on equality issues. The Council has 3 corporate policy officers, located in the Chief Executives Department who specialise in corporate equality issues. In addition, there are equality policy staff located within Council services who take forward issues at a service level. The Council has a range of action plans and other initiatives in place to translate policy into practice.

The Equality Networks Forum, chaired by Councillor Rabbani, enables representatives of equalities groups to meet regularly with the Council and provides opportunities to influence policy and service development.

The Council-funded Equality Bulletin is produced several times a year on behalf of the Equality Networks Forum.
